I posted this on the C3 board also but maybe you c2 guys can help me out

Friend just bought a 66 with the following engine in it. Need some help trying to figure out what he has.
Casting number 3963512 so I know its a BB 427 or 454. Owner said he thought it had a 454 in it.
Has another casting number: 8 Hi Perf
K PA 58

In the back by bel housing it has the following: 47-8

Was this some type of Truck replacement block?

Alum intake# 988082
Thanks Ray

On the pad where the vin was: 103 160 RV

3963512....427.......69........2 or 4 bolt
3963512....454.......70-76...2 or 4 bolt

Are you sure about the other numbers? K PA 58 does not make sense as a date code, as the date code would be "letter" "number" "number", and there is no way the year could be 58 (they used the last digit of the year in '58). Same goes for the 47-8. It could be that this is really A 7 8 which could be January 7th, 1968, but that seems early for this block.

Also, the "RV" code does not come up when I look. There is a "CRV" code which matches a 1970 Chevelle, 454/450, Manual Transmission, LS-6

Can you go and verify some of the numbers? The intake may not be a Chevy intake. Are there any other markings (like an Edelbrock logo)?

Brad just got some more info on that engine.

He is sure about the K pa 58 this is cast into block.

Intake manifold is marked GM.

The date is L 17 8, I couldn't read my own handwriting. Is that 12 17 68??
On the pad the code is CRV.

Could a 1970 engine be built on a block that was cast in 1968. Seems a little early what do you think?

I would say that the date is December 17, 1968 based on that code. I'm no expert on this, but it does seem a bit early for a 1970 block. But if the sources mean 1970 model year, these cars did come out in mid 1969, and maybe some blocks were made six months early?

I still have found nothing on the intake. Most GM numbers are seven digits long, and I tried a few modifications to what you have and still can't find an aluminum big block intake that comes close to those numbers. Intakes also have date codes. Any idea what this one might be?

So far, I have found one reference to a 988082 part number from GM. Only problem is that this is for a 1960-1964 Corvair, and is desrcibed as "GUARD ACCESSORY SET, DOOR EDGE"
