Now that the new Vette is here, you guys get ready for a flood of questions.... First one... does anyone have any detailed instructions on replacing the Speedo cable? I can hear it beneath the dash and the speedo operation is questionable (bounces a lot)...
Again - you really need to state what car you're dealing with.
Looks like it might be a 61 Frankie.
If You can "hear" it & it bounces that is a telltale sign that it the inner cable needs to be lubricated with white lithium grease. Unscrew the one of the cable ends at either the tranny or speedo head. Pull the inner cable all the way out of the outer cable case. Check for defects. Clean. Lubricate liberally with white lithium grease. Reinstall & hopefully gleeful bliss.
Prob is a '61....I use special purpose graphite lube Kable-Ez or something like that (forget the name). Sometimes pulling that inner cable out works; sometimes I've never gotten it to completely seat again - then things get interesting....
