I'm not completely sure he's counting all of the small, flat leafs at the top but from his description of the front springs and the ride it may well be a F41 car.

Get it looked at by somebody that knows their way around these cars before throwing a bunch of money at non sequiturs. Might be as simple a shocks or as extensive as rear spring. Hard to tell. I do know that if somebody has "Harry Hotrodded" your suspension and its too stiff the effects may start showing up on the body in ugly ways...

If you add your location to your forum profile there might be a forum member nearby that will take a look-see.

As for squeaks/rattles - some are solvable; others not so much. Chased an annoying idle rattle in my '61 for 6 months and it was nothing but a loose splash shield...

Ah yes. Missed it!
It's surprising how many people equate tire pressure with tire wear or fuel economy. They don't think about it in terms of ride quality.

Tom - the OP might already know the pressure is good and dismissed the comments we made but it would be nice to have some feedback and eliminate such an 'easy to check' item.

sorry for the delay, took a few lbs out of the tires, didn't make much difference, on the springs, I got under and ran my fingers over each one, so its 7,

took her around the oceanfront drive in town, which is real choppy and it just feels like riding a hardtail bike, I just dont want to put stress on some of the vunerable areas of the fiberglass, I did locate a local guy whose doing a frame off on a 68 at the pub, so Ican get a second opinion,
I just adore the car so thowing a few $ at it is no problem,

actually the car is a piece of equipment in one of our businesses, so it sort of has its own corporate healthcare plan

I REALLY appreciate all the help, keep the ideas coming,

Yes, count your spring leaves again. And again. And again.

Oh, and check the fronts too for the spring rate. While you're in there, check the shocks too.

F 41 springs may have a thicker wire diameter. If you have calipers, measure the coil diameter and post it here. I'm sure someone knows. Either that or look for a paper tag on the spring with a two letter spring code.

But who knows, that car could have JC Whitney springs on it for all anyone knows. That's why I (and others) suggested you take the car to someone with knowledge of what he is looking at. Kinda' tough to do looking through a PC monitor.

If those are black, I believe those are the higher end Monroe gas shocks, and that generally means stiffer valving.......http://www.monroe.com/en-US/products...hock-Absorbers. I would call Monroe and tell them that you are interested in a softer ride, and see which passenger car shock has the softest valving.

Soft valving means bounce in a cheap shock. Two way adjustable's you can soften the force and stiffen the rebound like modern cars to control bounce. The Koni's only allow the rebound to be adjusted. QA has both types. I know I'm making this into rocket science but.....I'm just say-in.

The stock front spring (#3851100) is a progressively-wound, variable-rate spring with .600" wire diameter; the F-41 front spring (#3832518) wire diameter is .680". The spring in the photo looks like a linear-rate, with larger-than-stock wire diameter.

Well - there is always a chance that someone has replaced the springs over the years and maybe with a non-GM spring. But, it does appear you probably have an F41 suspension under the car or something similar, so it's not going to ride exactly smoothly over less than perfect roads without doing some work on it.

gonna do 9 leaf & new rear shocks , see how that works,

I read on an old post that there is some variance to the quality of leaf springs from some suppliers, does anyone have any opinions or experience????
shocks to use?(I know that will open a floodgate of opinions)
thanks again,

Eaton brand rear leaf seems to get the nod most of the time. For shocks KYB gas units work well, IMO. Radial tires a definite + . ..
BOOBIES? .. Well, maybe an old guy might get lucky!
