I just replaced my complete wiring harness. Here is the question. When the light switch is pulled half way out the front parking lights are on and the back tail lights are on. When the light switch is pulled all the way out the front parking lights are OFF the head lights are on and the tail lights are on. Should the front parking lights be on when the head lights are on or are they to be off? I think I have spent to long on my head under the dash and have developed a memory loss.
Remeber your talking about a mid-sixties car... the front parking lights do go OFF when you pull the switch all the way out... Headlights only will be on.... :D
Jump the wire on the parking light to the low beam wire in the headlight. Make sure it's the parking light side and not the turn signal side. It will be the softer of the two light brightness'. You can use those blue plastic connectors and a jumper wire, no need to cut any wires. Do it up at the headlight/parking light area. You do not have to get back under the dash.
Master Dave's solution is simple, but you have to be careful because the low beams will come on with the parking lights in both the half-out and full-out switch positions. There will be no "parking lights only" position.
The way it was done by the factory guys was a redesign of the headlight switch itself.
This problem is also an easy fix..
Just insert a diode in series with this power jumper.
Diode will prevent the headlight operation in the parking light only position
Radio Shack should have them..
Just make sure that the diode Amp rating will handle the current draw of the lights.
Wire it so that it blocks current flow to the head lights, and allows flow to the parking lights..
