Default Clutch Slipping

The other day I was going thru the gears when engine speed increased significantly and I could smell burnt clutch. Crawled under the car, the rod to the clutch has slight play in it so I think it's adjusted correctly. Noticed an oil drip from the flywheel cover so removed it. There was oil inside dripping from the clutch fork. Doesn't appear oil is leaking from the intake or valve covers. There is oil at the front of the engine also, but wouldn't think that would get into the bell housing?
I have to conclude that the rear main is leaking. I have oil spots on the floor but didn't think it was a huge amount.
Question is, can that be causing my clutch slippage?

Yes, it definitely can contaminate the clutch and then slip. Most oil gets slung off by centrifugal forces but can then drip back down on to the clutch. So you will just have to pull the clutch and bell housing and examine everything. It could be a leaky rear seal, rear cam plug, oil from upper side of engine - a number of things.

Give the oil the ole sniff test. Is it engine oil or trans oil? Basically the same repair but make sure you fix the right part.

Can't tell for sure. Is it possible to leak out the front sleeve on a T10? There is no seal there.

I really don't know anything about T10 trans specifically but I would sure think there is a gasket behind the front bearing retainer and a seal on the input shaft.

There is a gasket there which was replaced two years ago. No seal on the input shaft which I always thought unusual.

No kidding? No input shaft seal? I'm with you, sounds odd to me too but I am surprised by stuff everyday. Well anyway all I was suggesting is when you take the trans out to see where the leak is coming from don't forget to check the trans.

I realize that this is an old thread but as to if there is a front seal in the t10 , I hope there is because my trans is a little wet there and I found a lot of them on the internet and ordered one at Auto Zone tonight that they say they have in stock . I will be stopping there tomorrow for it .

No, there is no seal there by design and mine was leaking because, I think, that whoever rebuilt the tranny didn’t use the correct input shaft. My tranny guy replaced the front bearing with one with a sealed face and I’ve had no more trouble.
