Clear Mats W/O Numbers = Junk?
I inherited a pair of clear plastic floor mats that came with my '65 roadster that don't have GM part numbers on them. They're yellowed but in reasonable condition. I'll likely never use them. I've read that the numbered ones might be worth a few bucks. Are they worth keeping with the car or send them to the landfill?

There is a set on ebay right now that looks to be in about the same shape for $300 -- supposedly original. You'd never get that from me for them though...

So I went to the sold listings, and I saw an aged set sell for $89.90. The set Frankie posted about is from a guy from whom I've bought a lot of used stuff. He either has really low prices, or really high prices. I wouldn't surprised if you could get half of what he's asking, maybe more from someone with a survivor since it would do well with the patina. It is rare though, don't see too many for sale. And it gives you that look.

Mine are even more yellow than shown above --- and I have the paperwork (therfore must be worth foolish money) :
Invoice from Gene Jantzen Chev; right across the street from the St. Louis Corvette plant. Had a plant tour in summer of '72.

You paid $8.25 for them in 1972? Wasn't that a lot of money for that back then?
Using the inflation calculator, $8.25 in 1972 is $47.10 in 2015. Well ... maybe that wasn't too bad.

When I replaced the GM/Delco shocks on my 1967 car I offered the old shocks free to anyone who wanted them. They were in decent shape, especially if cleaned up and painted and used on a show car. They had the right numbers and logos for the 1968-69 cars. The front pair went to a good home and wound up on one of the few NCRS L88 TF cars. So they were certainly worth something to the right person.
Another Corvette owner may want/need the mats. They have the correct "patina" for a vintage car.

For folks have nothing to do, here are the lyrics:
"See your Chevy's best friend today, Gene Jantzen Chevrolet
Across the street from the Chevrolet plant, the biggest and best, you'll say--
See your Chevy's best friend today, Gene Jantzen Chevrolet
He's at fifty-four-hundred on Natural Bridge, Gene Ja-a-antzen!"
For folks who REALLY have nothing to do, here's the tune to which these deathless lyrics were sung:
To be clear, below is not a Gene Jantzen commerical, just an example of "The Whistler and His Dog" which was the tune to which the lyrics were set.

the quality of the information that we could get on this forum was much higher a few years ago than it is now.....

I appreciate all the emails and PMs offering to take the mats off my hands but, I've decided to just keep them with the car.
