Hi, newbie here.Looking advise on distributor for'65 L79. An original Delco unit I bought used when doing my driver restoration crapped out after 2k miles, both tach drive gears wasted, also not so sure advance curve was correct, car did not seem to have the power it should, though it ran OK. I'm a good parts changer, not particularly technical, just a shade tree mechanic. Is there an HE I unit out there that will fit under shielding? I will probably send my original out to Jeff for rebuild( Lars no longer taking them). Not excited about waiting, may just run it without tach rest of season, any thoughts? PS- Though my first time posting ,the forum has been extremely valuable for info. during my restoration. Thanks!
I would keep your oem dist and have it rebuilt. I had my 65 chevelle dist redone by advanced distributors in shakopee, mn and they did a great job. advanceddistributors.com
I never heard Lars was no longer doing distributors - he did my '63 about 8 months ago - superb job. I don't think an HEI will come close to fitting under the shielding. Get your original rebuilt...

Thanks for the response. I emailed Lars recently, he said as of 6/1/15 he is no longer taking carbs or distributors.
