Default 66 BB Clutch Problems

I've been struggling with this clutch problem and just can't iron it out.

Here is what I have:

I used other information to verify the lenghts etc..

The car was apart when i got it. I have never seen these parts work together before, but based on documentation they should.

444 Bellhousing

stock BBC flywheel

1.25 throw out bearing (one that came with LUK)

1.5 clutch ball (not the early smaller one, the replacement)

LUK Clutch pressure plate kit 11"

9" clutch rod

Adapter on clutch pedal and spacer in place for BBC

Z-bar looks correct angle (confirmed it's 155 degrees)

Problem:

When the car IS NOT running i can put it in gear etc

When the car is running NO WAY can i push the clutch in far enough to disengage clutch plate

Here is what I have checked:

I took everything back apart and the clutch disk can only go in one way and it's noted "flywheel side"

adjusted the clutch per specs, then even went more as a test, no luck

Re-adjusted the shifter for neutral alignment

I had someone press the clutch in and the clutch fork looked to have moved over 1" easily. I could see that it did appear to be depressing the diaphragm pressure plate.

Any similar experience? What did you do?

May be having a brain f@rt - what is this? Do you mean the bracket that bolts to the clutch pedal arm and the spacer under the rod?

How much free play at top of pedal? Take all of the free play out as an experiment and see if it will shift in and out of gear.

But yes - lots of similar problems lately. One inch movement on the outer end of the fork is not going to be enough movement at the TO bearing to disengage many clutches. I'll try to find a couple threads on this and post.

Yes, that's the bracket.

I took all free play out and still no luck. I was at the bottom of the clutch rod. and it's the 19" rod too.

I was working on this about a year ago, and just now am able to get back to it. I got injured, so just now getting so i can bench press a muncie again We left off with the possibility of the clutch plate being backwards. Now fast forward, same problem but we know what it's not as far as clutch plate.

I had this same problem with a LUK clutch kit on my 65. The problem was the disc would not slide all the way on the trans input shaft. Do a search on my user name and clutch, I posted pictures.

Pulled my hair out figuring this out.

Default Excellent info

Thanks!

The article pointed out that the pressure plate can have similar characteristics of how a cam works. I had no idea, I think my problem may be a crappy clutch setup. Either way, looks like it's coming out again!

Looks like Mr. D also had a problem related to clutch plate too.

Appreciate the fact finding! much appreicated

Default clutch plate

From your research, you have certainly given me something to look at. I "almost" test fitted the clutch plate, but figured it was a good brand, wth...

appreciate the great info provided!
