'58 & '65 corvette values
I came across two corvettes for sale by a widow who wants find a new home for them.
1958 Fuelie, original Powerglide but converted to a 4 speed. Original powerglide comes with the car. Original motor, but it was rebuilt years ago and the numbers where removed from the deck in the process so the story goes. The rebuild increased the HP from 250 to 290 HP. There were some paint repairs not visible in the pictures. Black top.
1965 corvette, Blue Blue, 327/365 HP numbers matching, original KH wheels (5). no other options.
I haven't gone to see the cars yet, but was curious about anyone's opinion on value.

Those look like 64 wheels on the 65. It is lacking the black painted inner fins. The 365hp motor will bring the highest price for a carbureted small block. You will need to post more pics on quality before you can ascertain an accurate price folks on this forum. According to Haggerty, the average price for a 65' L76 vert is around $87,000. Hardtop much less for whatever reason. I just looked it up on their site. Again, it depends on the quality.

I would buy the 65 any time over a c1.

I know you guys love photos, so here they are.
'65 is a 365 motor but with a 350 cam in it. Original door panels, fan and shroud are included.
These cars are too nice for me, I like ones that need at least 500 hrs. of work to get back on the road.

Nice 65 Coupe with a few things to look a bit more closely at. It's a small thing but seeing the Day/Night mirror inside the 65 should mean you'd also see inboard back up lights. It's got 4 red taillights which could just mean a previous owner wanted it that way or could mean it got 'tapped' on the back end at some time but worth a look up inside to double check. Also, the spare tire carrier is MIA. Regarding the HEI distributor, does is have a tach-drive setup on it for the tachometer?

Spare tire carrier included, forgot to mention. If I recall correctly, he said it still has tach-drive tachometer setup.

Power Top on the '58 - that is pretty cool.

I like the 65 Coupe, depending on what sorta price they put on it. Looks to have the original 'HH' code 365 horse engine but somewhere along the line they made a few 'improvements' like adding power steering which means they changed the oil pan. I suppose the electric fan interfered with the original steel fan shroud, does the fan shroud come with it? EDIT - Just read where you mentioned the fan and shroud do come with the car.

I would say the base value for either car is around 40k, and goes up from there. Both are nice cars, interesting that the '58 was a red car originally, and had a power top and automatic....probably somebody's wife's car. A neat piece. As to the wheel weight question, applying wheel weights to both lips of a wheel is industry standard for a more complete and refined balance and for customer satisfaction. Wheels balanced on both planes simply run smoother. Inside weights or weights moved towards the center are for cosmetic reasons, but compromise the balance.

BOTH cars need thoroughly examined -- that '58 has a lot of rust in the A-pillar door jamb gutter - its seen a few rainstorms. And something is definitely up with the power window conduit channel in the door that houses the switch wires....looks like a hack job of installation...
