Do you tip your painter?
No , I don't believe in tipping for jobs where the worker is paid well . I owned a restoration shop for twenty five years and the only tip I got was from a local farm butcher that brought me a roasting chicken
because he liked the job that was done and I sure didn't expect that although we did appreciate that the customer was happy.

I've found that a token of a great job done is really appreciated because it so rarely happens, but not cash. The Shop charges for the job and is well paid, but the actual guy who shoots the car, if he does an exemplary job...might get a good bottle of scotch from me.
If you were told 4-5 months and after 17 months to complete the job you think he deserves a tip? Not to mention the upcharge on the job. At that point I just wanted it out of there.....
No I don't think so!

It depends. Was the job completed sooner than stated for less than the quote? Were you blown away by the quality of the job? If the answer is yes, a tip could be appropriate.
Unfortunately, the vast majority experience a different scenario. Typically, if you double the price and delivery time, you'll be closer to reality. That's why I do all my own paint and body work.

I still have to show the person but would rather not even bother with it. There are better painters. Maybe someday I get it taken care of...
Not to mention lots of orange peel.

Enough said. I wouldn't pay them a dime. Like I said, that's why I do my own work. I absolutely hate doing it but the finished product is worth it. Why pay someone to do a ****** job? At the last car show, I had many people ask, "who did your paint?" When I told them I did it myself they asked "what would it cost to do the same job on my car?" You'd be surprised how many would pay me $20K for a paint job.
I always have tipped my painters for the last 35 years for many paint jobs. I have been a auto mechanic for over 40 years and have received many tips myself for a job done to the customers satisfaction.

That would be like tipping the mechanic at your dealership after they charged book rates, did the job in half the time, and charged you $150 hr labor.
