Default Modded 66 price help please.

I have the opportunity to look at this modded 66 convertible after Mathew gets out or our area. I know it to be at least a 2 likely 3 owner Vette. I am a C5 owner, the last C2 I owner was in the early 70s. Pics are forthcoming... Need to hear from every one here... what is this vette worth, as is???
Many thx SCVette

Received your email and here are the answers to your questions as best I can:
1. Current mileage is 62, 822. I have no idea how accurate this is. The only thing I can attest to is that that the odometer works since I have owned the car. I have put very few miles on the car (maybe 4-5 thousand).
2. VIN # 194676Sxxxxxx
3. I have owned the car since 1990. I do not have the original build sheet.
4. The numbers do not match, the engine was replaced by a former owner( I have no idea how many people owned the car before me) Current engine is a 1969- 327.
5. The original color of the car was black exterior. When I bought it was red and I had it repainted red shortly after. I replaced the seats and carpeting ( black interior ). It did not have a soft top and I bought a new soft white top for the car in the 90's.
6. It has brand new bumpers front and rear, much wiring was replaced and several new hoses replaced a few years ago.
7. Car has side exhausts.
8. Several other items replace over the last 26 years.
9. No professional restoration done. Car has been in the garage in New York until it was moved down to xxxxxx about 7 years ago where it has been garaged since.
10. A prior owner had the front and rear wheel wells "scooped" to allow for wide tires (a fad in the late 60's /early 70's). Thischange was well done.
11. It does not have A/C or power windows. I have the hardtop for the car in Xxxxxxxx

Anything specific I should be looking at when I see it?

It is VERY difficult to give you a reasonable answer as to value without knowing a LOT more about the car, with particular regard as to its condition. Being a prior New York car leads to a lot of questions as to potential rust and corrosion damage to the frame and birdcage.

Those areas along with the entire undercarrage and driveline need to be inspected thoroughly.

What condition is the paint in?

What condition is the interior in?

How does it run and drive? What is the mechanical condition of the car?

So, if you want a WAG - for a NOM car with a color change and flared fenders, IF the above issues are in reasonably good shape, I'd say $35 to 40 k. Maybe more if the car is excellent, less if there are significant issues.

I dont think I would go above 35k . if you go to the opinions in this section you will see some cars in low 40s that are more original.

Powerglide automatic changes things, value-wise. Flared fenders look well done and modest, and the tail lights look great. What's the asking price?

I missed that. Good catch!

I do still think $35 to 40k for that car if it is in good condition is what it would go for in my area of the country.

Your area and opinion may vary....

Given this info, I'd offer 30-31K and see if they bite.

If you just want a C2 and can get into it with no frame worries for 30k its a good deal.

Location matters....in CA, that car would be long gone at 35k.....

It sounds like it's priced fairly if it has a good frame an d birdcage as others have said. If it's "asking" $35k you surely will buy it in the lower $30's.

The powerglide limits the market- just a fact. Remember when you are buying you will someday will be selling (generally).

sub $30k Sting Rays need much more than this one. Just plan on enjoying it for what it is. Restoration would be prohibitive.

If the car has been for sale for $35K with no takers...would seem safe to assume he HAS had offers...Who doesn't take $5000 less that their asking price? Like I said, I'd offer $27500...common sense tells you if it was a deal..it wouldn't still be for sale.

i didn't call it a "deal" but rather that it's a "fair ask."

Like many others, i strongly want a "deal" but if the car suits me I'm prepared to pay a "fair" price. When I'm a buyer. If the car is uniquely suited to me I might even pay above market depending on how long I plan to own it and what I'm going to do with it.

When I am a seller, the people who demand a "deal" aren't in the running- just noise. Why not hold out for a fair price or- like so many others - hold out for strong money?

also- at $5k below the ask many people wouldn't sell a $35k ask car. At $15k (for a c3 priced fairly, for example) no one is going to sell their car for $10k. At $100k, the $5k is probably no biggie.

The term 'deal' without a qualifiers, like good, screaming good, bad, stupid bad. Is just that ..a deal. period. accepted by both. If the car was a 'deal'. ACCEPTED deal, it would be sold.

The VAST majority of specialty cars for sale at $35,000, have $5000 dickering room in it. One that has been for sale for a while certainly does and if not $5000 then more. I don't know the seller so couldn't give a rats fanny how he makes out on the car...the OP is a Corvette Forum brother, I'd LIKE to give him advice that is in HIS favor.

Offer $27,5K and maybe you will get it for $30K..offer $31 K and you will NEVER get it for $30K Be prepared to walk away...you can always walk back.

Who in his right mind wants to buy a mid year Corvette for $35K with a FORD AIR CLEANER ON IT!!!!!!!

I agree with Karkrafter, its going to get cold and will be more cars for sale UNLESS YOU LOVE IT and its in your price.
