I have to say this to all the radial tire guys (and I'm one too); when I put the bias-ply tires on for judging and drove the car I was amazed at how much easier the manual steering was to operate. I don't know if its the sidewall construction, stiffer rubber or narrower tread but the difference was dramatic. So, there is at least one downside to running radials; I run the Tiger Paw AWP II radials normally...

Yes, my dad put Dunlop SP41's on his '63 fuelie in 1965. Still, if you truly want to enjoy your 60's car as it was in the 60's, you ought to drive it on bias plys.

I'm thinking of upgrades that can be reversed if required.
I have made several (reversible) upgrades to my C2 after achieving a 98% at the NCRS National in 2007. Once you get that far with NCRS originality, the question is, "now what?"

My car already had power steering, but I added power brakes to make it more similar to the modern cars in my family that I normally drive. Another HUGE improvement was installing a Tremec TKO-600 5-speed. I added head rests and 3-point seat belts for safety. I feel that I can drive this car anywhere with comfort and reliability.

Your comment speaks volumes! How tough was the Tremec conversion? I've read threads on it and the cost and install don't come cheap or sound easy? Then again if I average it over the next 10 years I'm sure I can justify about anything

Sting (in the background in my avatar) is very original, numbers matching, etc. It will be kept pure. Ray (in the foreground), on the other hand, has a complete non-original drivetrain and a pretty beat up body. Only this nice is the interior that the previous owner redid. My plans are to make it what I want. Might not make sense financially or otherwise to some, but it is my retirement project and I am having fun.

Phase 1 (now underway for completion in Spring 2017):
- 4 wheel disc brakes with Wilwood calipers and dual master cylinder.
- all new brake lines
- Offset rear trailing arms with coilovers
- rebuilt differential changing the 3.08 to a 3.55
- front semi coilovers
- Steeroids rack and pinion steering conversion
- new Moog rubber everywhere
- new Spicer non greaseable U-joints
- repair botched bubba fix of differential tunnel fiberglass
- strip, wire brush, etc. exposed frame to bare metal and repaint
- clean up underside

Phase 2 (basics planned for winter 2017):
- new LS motor
- new TK600 5 speed

Phase 3 (planned for winter 2018):
- repair botched body repairs
- repaint

The TKO-600 installation is a pure bolt-in swap that can be done with the engine in the car. However, the size of the transmission requires using an installation sequence with several steps that are not intuitive. I just followed the step-by-step written instructions and it all worked out fine. Using a 3-axis transmission jack helped immensely.

I just did a powerglide to tko500 5 spd conversion this past spring. If your already a 4spd its a lot less than the 5k it cost me and way less complex. But I will say its been nothing less than great. I did it all on jackstands in the garage. On the highway at 60mph it was 3000rpm with the glide and a 3:36 gear. Now with the tremec and same gear its about 18-1900 @60 mph . It runs cooler and much happier at highway speeds. Currently trying to figure out my game plan on a conversion to 4 wheel power disc brakes/offset rear trailing arms and contemplating getting rid of the finicky 52 yr old wcfb carb. And going throttle body efi. Decisions decisions. ..

It's very fun to drive and comfortable.
Wondering what kit you used for your front brake conversion and how much of a difference in stopping it made for you? Any reason you didn't convert the rear to disc?

Thanks
Jim

Haven't heard one complaint from anyone who's done the conversion! Anyone do this conversion on the north side of the border? Have a good list recommendations of US suppliers but just wondering if anyone in Canada sells the same?

Not sure about up in Canada. I used Silver sport transmission out of Tennessee here in the states and they supplied the whole conversion kit. Was a great company to deal with.

I put a set of KYB shocks off e-bay, made a big improvement! cheap and easy to install. BTW I kept the originals even tho I had to cut one if the front off.
