Default Double heresy?

New to the forum (in fact, it's my first post) though I've researched here numerous times. After 34 years of actively wanting a C2, I bought my first about a month ago. A shining example of a future restomod...
Ain't she a beauty? What you see is what you get, and obviously, this one has a long way to go and no parts to get it there. I plan to restomod it and don't feel bad about it as, no matter how I fixed it, most of the parts are coming from somewhere other than this car, AND I'm not ruining a nice car in the process. So, to my question: has anyone ever seen C3 external mirrors on a C2? I want to do it so as to have power mirrors and using '81-82 mirrors, it should be doable. If it's been done and anyone has a picture, that'd be appreciated. I already know I'll be a heretic to some for restomoding, so a double heretic for using the wrong mirror can't be that much worse. Thanks for any help.

Welcome, Merry Christmas, and it's YOUR car so do whatever makes you happy. I'd bet big money it will look better when you're done than it does now so who can fault THAT?

Never seen C3 mirrors on a C1 or C2, but if you have the courage to save that body from the salvage pit, your are not going to have a problem making the mirror fit. I say BRAVO and GIT ER DONE.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses. I was a little concerned that I might get "ripped a new one" for restomoding, but it sounds like y'all are thinking like I am. If nothing else, this'll be one less in the grave yard. I think that other than the vent windows, the midbody curves of the C2 and C3 are pretty much the same. The mirrors should fit pretty well without much adjustment. The look may be harder to adjust to...

I've seen a few mid-years over the years with nice looking sport mirrors on them. I did find this picture of a vintage racer with them, but it's all I could find in a quick search...

I would search under "resto-mods", many of them have updated their mirrors to go with the resto-mod theme.

Good luck... and welcome to the Corvette Forum!

I can't imagine C3 mirrors would look out of place on a restomod especially if you take the time to have the mirror head sit level. If the head is tilted either in or out it probably wouldn't look right. You may have to play around with the mounting location or modify the base.
Welcome to the forum and thanks for saving another C2.

Well, those all look fine to me! To me, the old mirrors sort of look out of place on the modernized cars. I also plan to Bluetooth, air condition, paddle shift auto, etc, so the power mirrors would fit the spirit of the car much more than the chrome, manual models. Dissenting opinions welcome as well.

Keep posting as you make progress - many of us would be interested in following your build.

It's your car. Others may whine about what you're doing to it, but they only get a vote if they're willing to pay you to make it how they want it.

Best of luck, looks like a deep project.

My 65 coupe looked a lot like yours when I found it, and had it not been an original fuelie with about 90% of its original stuff, I would have done a restomod with it. I still think about a new chassis, LS motor, 5 speed but now I'm the custodian of a fuelie and would need to sell it and find another in that shape to go restomod. Maybe someday. It's your car, and with what you have to start with no one will question the restomod route. I look at it this way, better to save it as a restomod than let it disappear as scrap.

Good luck with the project, lots of fun times and decisions ahead!

As a proud member of the stick in the mud/ keep 'em correct club, I'd say this is a fantastic restomod candidate; go nuts!

Merry Christmas!

We're almost underway. Car's bought, as is the engine and transmission. It'll be an LS7, a TCI 6x six speed with paddle shift, a Speedshop C7 frame and suspension, Infinity Box electronics, and a lot of other details to follow. Yes, I am going to spend a ton on this, but after 34 years, you ought to get what you want.

Hi, I am on my phone and away from my pictures, I think I stopped by and saw your car while on my 48 States trip. I remember the lunch being really good.

Can't fathom anyone complaining about resto-moding that one. You'd be money ahead sitting around burning hundred dollar bills then attempt to do a correct restoration. As a resto-mod, you might actually come out ahead. Look forward to hearing about your progress!
