Tracking down a older car
I don't know if I could even afford it or if it would be for sale but I would like to track down my dad's 1960 Corvette.
This is my mom and dad with the car, circa 1963 in Anderson, IN. He sold it in 1965
I have the VIN at home...any idea on how to track it down?

For starters check the Corvette C1 registry.

Most of these sites won't pull up the older VIN's.

The registry is specificaly for older cars, info entered by those who know them.
The NMVTIS will show info regardless of vehicle age but only if a title has been issued, car has been destroyed, etc within the time the system has been operative (or as far back as info has been entered). So if someone titled that car in say 1973 and still has it, NMVTIS won't show it. But if is was titled within the last several years, it will be shown.
For example, my ex-wife's 1958, which she sold in NY in about 1971, shows titled in Washington state in 1997.

Or if I luck out and its a member on here that might have owned it since dad sold the car last.

FYI
NVMTIS was required by all states as of 1 Jan 2010. Many states were participating prior to that voluntarily.
But a car that has not been titled / on the road in many years won't show up.

You need to find a friendly FBI agent. Restoration firms often use the FBI data base. The problem is if the agent gets caught they lose their job.
You might see if you have any friends on the police force. They can often get into a data base that is locked down.

He has rates listed on his site of $200-350 or more. He also has a free form which I filled out and he got back to me really quickly......NO luck

Police officers and support staff will lose their jobs and pensions if they look at that stuff without cause.
It amazed me how many "friends" asked me to risk my future to help them check on a car.
