I put a simple 350ci/290hp GM goodwrench crate in my body-off restored 64 coupe , and my first test drives (mainly to set the brakes, not been higher than 60 mph yet) indicate that's more than enough power for the kind of driving I do. 600hp sounds scary, and I am afraid you will end up with an unbalanced car...(brakes, steering, suspension, springs, dampers, chassis etc)

I have the GM290hp in one of my trucks, that engine is super reliable! best bang for the buck!
i was just curious if money was no object what kind of motor would
you install in your c2 and why this particular motor??
i am thinking about putting a new motor in my 66 coupe but not sure
which motor to go with? i want something that i can drive on the street
but something with about 600 horsepower. any suggestions? i kind of
like the LSX motor but maybe there is something better out there?
thanks for your replies and input.
I notice you have not added a comment since the opening post.
I think your car has an NOM sbc? Do you have documents and dyno reports reflecting the current hp estimates? I ask because a 400 hp 327 or 350 is more rare than expected (very rare with iron heads).
A true 450 hp sbc C2 with matched gearing will keep up with most modern LS engined GM products and the 392 hemi Dodge Charger (up to about 120 mph, confirmed on a regular basis). Taking down the modern supercharged muscle and sports variants will take more power, but as said before in this thread the modifications expand to the drivetrain and chassis to be reliable (if you use the power).
If take down antics are not your style, there are many 400-450 hp sbc options that will put a smile to your face when listening to a 7500 rpm shift.
I'd put either an L76 (327/365 solid cam and lifters) or L79 (327/350, which is already in my car). I think these two are the perfect engines for a C2 (paired with a Muncie 4 speed of course). They sound cool, look cool and have lots of power. If you want a modern muscle car then you should buy one. If you want a resto mod then you should build one. If you want a piece of American history with lots of nostalgia along with all around "cool" factor, then install an L76 or L79.
