i was just curious if money was no object what kind of motor would
you install in your c2 and why this particular motor??
i am thinking about putting a new motor in my 66 coupe but not sure
which motor to go with? i want something that i can drive on the street
but something with about 600 horsepower. any suggestions? i kind of
like the LSX motor but maybe there is something better out there?
I would put the original motor back in the C 2 if it were my car. What you are talking about is making a resto mod out of a 50 year old car. To me that is like putting a heart out of a 20 year old in your grandfather and asking him to run the Boston Marathon. You asked and that is what I would do. Remember some of these old car with original chassis and suspension were not built from GM to run 600 hp motors in them. Good luck with what ever you decide.
A well built SB 327 or 350 will give you all the HP you need. First, it can get in trouble and second, it put a smile on your face, unless you wreck the car. Think about where you drive and what use 600 HP would be good for. Think torque! Dennis
600 HP requires re-engineering (and changing) the entire car. Brakes, chassis, suspension, steering, cooling, rear end, transmission, etc. My perfect engine for a C2 if I had one would be either the stock one, or if it came NOM, a period block with a stroker kit. About 400 HP or a little more, with no other mods necessary to have a sweet running, user-friendly C2.
Typically there is at least one at Carliisle for sale every year for the past few years.
It will get you close to the horsepower level you're looking for (or at least as close as you're gonna want to get), weigh about the same as a typical small block and if you're careful... not require a lot of modifications.

hey gusto
i like the looks of this ZL-1 bu i dont want to spend 5K for the block.
my current 350 small block is putting out 400-450 horses, which is
good but not great compared to the new modern technology of todays
amazing motors, i saw a motor on ebay that is all hand built and
has a 24 month warranty and is street friendly and suppose to hold up
and last. it sounds good and is only $7500 plus shipping.
what do u think? i think it would drop right in my corvette. i would
have to get a new clutch etc and would like a tremec 5 speed tranny.
The C 7 LT 4 650 HP is a very drivable engine used in the Z 06. Very docile until you put your foot down. But as mentioned above you will need a whole lot of upgrades to handle that HP.

I have a new zo6, but even with the refinements of the new chassis it is easy to get into trouble. A crate 383 stroker would be plenty of power. I put one in my 61 and it's a hand full with that chassis. Something over 600 horse would be a blast but would require major changes to the car to make work.

any thoughts? thanks
Yes, take that $7500.00 along with the extra $7500.00 you'll need for all those upgrades then, head down to your local GM dealership and, put a nice 15k down payment on a 2016 Z06 while they're scrambling to get them off their lot!

Unless you are going to drive it wide open every time you get in it, what are you going to use 600 hp for???
Of course, if you are 70 years old and have the money to blow, GO FOR IT. That's how we ended up with R66, why leave it all for the kids.
Get ready to spend a bundle on broken parts. You need my little 11" wide slicks or more to get a bite and the 5 speed from my race car to get a launch and a strong set of gears, frame modifications to hold it, new driveshaft and half shafts, clutch setup, etc. etc. etc., It never ends.
I don't think $15K will cover the modifications and maintenance needed unless you do the work yourself. It is generally cheaper to buy a resto mod for a few grand that someone else has dumped their life savings into and finish it or freshen it up. Just a thought.
I don't feel like the LS motors look "at home" in these cars. Personally, I would do an aluminum headed 383 small block with a hydraulic roller cam and an aftermarket throttle-body type fuel injection setup.

With skinny tires, standard brakes, a 50 year old frame and suspension set up, and the practical lack of any meaningful safety systems (as compared to modern cars), I would not be interested in any more than about 400 HP, unless it was just for bragging rights. But that's awful costly for trying to impress strangers.
My 10 year old C6 has a measly 400HP, and does a mid-4 sec 0-60, and low to mid 12s in the quarter mile. I cannot imagine having that much power on hand in my '65. The C6s rear tire treads are around a foot wide.
If, on the other hand, I was doing a no-expense spared restomod which included a custom frame, C6 suspension, etc., then by all means, something in the range of 700-800HP would be nice.
YMMV
