Default Steering wheels

Can anyone tell me why C2 steering wheels came in 15" and 16" sizes? I have a 16" fake wood wheel. I'm looking to replace with a teak wheel and think 15" would look better. No power steering but car is easy enough to steer. Would 1" make that much difference? Struck out using Search. Thoughts?

Thanks!
John

ALL 63-67 steering wheels were 16" in diameter. Gm changed to 15" sometime early in the 70's when PS became the norm on all cars.

My Eric Freeman wheel is 15” in diameter - one inch smaller than original and about an inch less dish (depth). As you can see in the pic below, the smaller size gives more chest and leg room. Steering effort will be a little higher if you don’t have PS but most are OK with it.

With all of the whining about manual steering on here I'm surprised anybody without PS opts for the smaller wheel. My car came with one, I sent it back to the seller and mounted an original
