For the ones of you that has used the krylon black paint, got a question. Since the fan throws up dead bugs and other trash, can the paint be wipe off using a degreaser without the paint show a smear. I would first use water but sometimes I need something stronger like a degreaser that you normally use before painting. My hood at present has a shinny black and would like to use a paint that is a more correct color.
Please do not take this the wrong way...but if when you are spraying and you are getting bugs and trash in your paint...instead of worrying about how to wipe the paint off with 'whatever'...maybe painting in an environment that is good for spraying is what should be investigated.
Depending on how thick of a coat was applied...and how long it had been allowed to 'flash off'...sometimes the streaking in the finish can be minor enough so that the next coat of paint will hide it.
I can say from experience....that if someone used wax and grease remover to wipe off wet paint while spraying and this wax and grease remover is thus getting to the bare fiberglass and allowed to saturate into it and NOT be immediately wiped off dry....that person is opening up one SERIOUS can of worms.
I looked at an old late 80s GM price schedule and 1050104 was not available at that time. I think it was discontinued because of some of the ingredients that were used at that time. If it became available again, that must mean that something was changed in the formula to align with the folks at EPA.
When 1050104 is used to dip parts instead of sprayed, the results are a bit more shine, but still not anywhere near gloss. The majority of parts that GM or it's vendors supplied were dipped. You can often see runs and drips.
I looked on line and it's available from several sources. Not cheap though.
Pretty sure I still have a gallon in storage that's probably 35 years old.
I still have some of this GM Paint from the late 1980's early 1990's period. When I used it (sprayed) it was FLAT black in my opinion. The Krylon 1613 lacquer has some gloss by comparison.
The GM paint was discontinued as stated.................not certain what the current formulation is.

I'm having an NCRS TDB flashback, you can drive yourself snakepoo with such nuances. Krylon Industrial 1613 will work and pass judging and mere mortals can actually find and buy it.....
If the JG calls for "low sheen" black then straight up FLAT is going to cost you points. That's just the reality....doesn't much matter what GM originally used...
He's talking about junk flung up while driving the car. I clean the Krylon paint with Simple Green and it'll touch up flawlessly and invisibility too.
OOOPS...BOY...did I completely mess that one up....when I read it...when I read the word 'fan'..and knowing we were talking about painting....my brain took me to the 'fan adjustment' of a paint gun...and NOT the fan on the engine. Now is the time for me to open my mouth and insert my foot.

Yeah, like I've never "stepped in it" on here (* SMILE *)

You just have paint on the brain. Hopefully, you haven't gotten too much!

Likewise regarding hoof and mouth disease......

I WISH I could use that as an excuse. But I use a fresh air breathing system..and Tyvek suits, gloves, etc...so I can not say I have been exposed to the stuff that I could use as an excuse.
I just simply screwed up. I can say I am still quite limber...because I know how my foot tastes.... due to on occasion...I get to get into that yoga pose that I have known to do so well over my lifetime.
