[C1] Windshield HELP!
My Dad bought this 1961 nearly 30 years ago and started a full restoration. When time and money got to be a liability, he gave it to me (12 years ago). Myself, being in the Navy, also didn't have too much of either until two years ago when I finally retired and began finishing the resto. The goal now is to finish the vette and give it back to my Dad (he doesn't know this, so shhhhh...). The issue is.... my Dad also announces Monster Truck races (for fun) and will be announcing a show in our home town this July. I have worked it out with the race promoter to surprise him with the car during the half-time show, which gives me about three months to complete it. It is completely doable as everything is done and just needs to be reassembled, and I'm over halfway done with that. That brings me to my issue - the windshield. I just broke my SECOND one yesterday trying to put the trim back on. The first one I understand fully, I accidentally twisted it, the second one - I have no idea, I was very careful and next thing you know - poof! There's a crack. I didn't even hear it, I just noticed it when I looked up - grrr!
That being said, I am hoping there is someone who knows of someone in the Memphis area that can install the next one I order. I have a feeling that if I try to do it myself, by the time I am done, I could have just ordered an entire assembly! Jim

One thing in the process that bothered me was using a rubber mallet to get the end posts on to the upper and lower trim. But I used the rubber hammer and never had any problems. Also it is essential to use some soapy water to help the trim slip over the rubber gasket.
One more thing DO NOT touch the edge of the glass with any metallic objects (screwdriver, etc) or it will quickly create a crack.
