back when I replaced mine on the 62, the replacement weatherstrip seemed to be D-shaped whereas I thought it should be L-shaped. I was not a happy camperas it made the corners stick up....
That's why I have asked the OP what model year he is installing w/s on. In '59 they switched from the L shaped trunk and deck lid w/s to a tubular shaped w/s that has a slight flat spot.
I realize this topic is a year old but the question was never answered and now I have the same question . Does the trunk L shaped weatherstrip on a 57 Corvette go with the thick part on the inner part or to the outside lip of the trunk lid ?

yes. place the end where it is centered over the trunk latch and or lock, work to the right going up and over and down the drivers side and be careful not to stretch it too much. When you get the remaining end down to the place where you started the seam should be right in the middle of the latch. Trim off excess leaving a very slight space between the two ends and glue in place.

So you are saying that the thick part goes to the inside and not to the outside , correct ? Thank you , BJ
Sometimes it helps to do a dry fit (without glue) and make some chalk witness marks on the gasket and the body along the way so when the time comes for final installation you don't compress or stretch the gasket and wind up too short or too long.
What I need is a close up picture of the way the rubber is turned before gluing. There are about four ways that it could be put on and I want to get it correct . Unfortunately there was no weatherstrips on the car for me to look at .

I can't find a pic for your right now, but someone will. Another way to approach it is to take your w/s and put the largest (hump) down into the gutter portion of the surround. This is how it seals your trunk from the elements. You will see how it configures to the lid and how it is positioned once the trunk lid is closed. The smaller and more flat part of the w/s would be inward towards the trunk opening when you place the hump into the gutter. Someone with a current '57 will find you a pic. I will keep looking in my library also.

These photos are from an original 27K mile car with the original w/s in tact. Study them closely because they aren't the best angles for you, but hopefully they will help you.

Yes , Thank you . It does look like the wide part gets glued down to the trunk lid side . If we are looking at something original . Maybe someone will have some more pictures . I will wait a while before install . Thanks again.
