Opinions on this 63 for sale
Anyone know anything about this car just listed by Mershon's?
Any opinions judging by the pics...especially the tags?
How correct does it look?

It's a nice looking car but when the first thing I see when I look under the hood is that in-your-face 1964 master cylinder it just makes me wonder what sort of "restoration" has been done. Original 63 M/Cs aren't that rare and there is now an excellent repro available. I don't mind the 250hp mill; they are peppy but you won't get bragging rights. Usually cars with the mouse motor haven't been flogged excessively so that's a plus. Wouldn't be surprised if they didn't want maybe 6 digits for it, in which case there are two in the For Sale section on here for 15%-20% more and one is a known real deal fuelie (prestige6's car)..
I don't think there was any "blue leather upholstery" from the factory; Saddle Tan leather but not blue IIRC. That's fine if it was added and the originality isn't a factor... Then there is that barbecue grill black paint all around the VIN and trim tag. I'd always rather see the burnt area where the welds were done on the tags along with some nice green zinc chromate. The fuel pump looks to be a later, service-replacement, crimped together jobby-do..
There is a lot of wheel weight on the inside of the PS front tire; I wonder how it rides..
Having said all that, if the car is solid, this stuff is correctable and at the right price could be somebody's dream machine...

I know the car was not on there lot 2 weeks ago, I was there inspecting a car for a new Corvette guy. The only SWC they had on the place was a White over Dark Blue and the guy bought it.

Did any 63s get the reinforced lower control arm?
No leather other than saddle in 63.

I have told their salesmen at least half a dozen times how to take a good photo of an engine pad with a smart phone and to show under body photos of the front end......they still dont do it.

Pretty car. Of course I'm biased towards Daytona blue/blues SWCs.
Like Frankie says, why do a body off restoration and put a cheap obviously wrong '64 master cylinder on it? Odd choice. Also odd text in the ad that references people adding options to restoration projects, but this one isn't, yet they added leather which wasn't available. I'd think Dan would have someone making these decisions with a little more common sense.
That said, neither subtracts from the car. I wanted to verify the "original seat belts" but they aren't seen in the photos. Engine pad numbers should be pictured. I do like the very clean bare floor pans under the car. I wonder if the steel wheels are original 63s, which are far more expensive than other wheels that could hide under the caps.
Car is certainly worth looking at.

I was there yesterday inspecting another car for a buyer. I did not go over the car at all. But did notice that the car looked very nice. Like others right off the bat the cheap replacement master cylinder stands out on an otherwise very nice looking car.

I agree with pretty well all the comments.
Almost every 63 for sale seems to have that 64 master cylinder.
This one at Legendary is described as an all original "Time Warp" car...it also has a 64 master cylinder.
And check out the price.

They didn't even take the time to mask off the alternator bracket, before spraying the fake orange "patina" on the RH exhaust manifold.

So the car sits for 4-5 months at $185K, they lower the price to $165K and again, no action. The car goes down to $145K and they get a few bites... It takes another 3 months and the car is sold at $125K; still thousands above what its worth. Seen it two dozen times; even on my own '61 sold through a consignment shop...
My 63 came to me with a 64 master cylinder and a wrong crimped together fuel pump. (All fixed now). Seems an owner (or two) just did what was needed to return the car to the road and I'm OK with that. But citing a world-class, fresh restoration with such parts on a car is pretty damned lame...

I agree the car is a knockout. My favorite color for a '63. That said, in 40 years of buying cars, whenever a price is not listed, the car in question is always, always, overpriced.

There was a 63 Roadster there at Mershon's when I inspected the 63 SWC and I noticed that it had a 64 Master cylinder on it but the 63 SWC I inspected had the correct master cylinder on the car. Rare to see that. The SWC I looked at did not have the correct radio in it, it was an aftermarket Walmart thing and we made them put in the correct radio in the car and they did.

That's strong money for that car... Low HP and a color not everybody enjoys (but many do!), bogus interior, and, several other things a bit off. I bet $87K would take it home...that would be my offer if I were in the market and everything checked out. And only that much because the major work looks well done...
My red/red 250hp/4-spd split; a regional 93% Second Flight awardee is insured for $95K...
Not that that means anything....its just my personal feel about how I'd want compensated if a meteor hit it (not a Mercury Meteor either)...
