Default Modify a '54 hood

This wasn't unexpected, I have a 283 with 2x4's in my '54 and naturally the hood will not close. Will removing part of the X brace be sufficient to close the hood? I'm sure this has been done before. I'd rather not use a hood scoop....

I thought you would have issues. I mentioned it a while back.
Please dont cut a good OE hood.....
Ever think about a 56/57 hood - the bracing is different
Or a 54 hood already cut for a carb and hood scoop ( I have one)

I had a early 54 with a 305 V8 in it with a carb, hood closed perfectly.
Don't ruin a perfectly good hood by cutting it.
Probably need a different intake or modify the front mounts (THIN THE RUBBER BUSHINGS) to lower the engine.
Or worst case just carefully cut the bracing and save the pieces.

Yep, you did. I knew I'd have a problem. I don't want to butcher a good hood. I don't want a scoop either. I've seen these cars with V-8's, and the stock hood but never inquired about it.
56/57 hoods have a diffent look.

It's a Corvette 2X4 intake and carbs, doesn't get much lower then that.
Looks like just the center of the X is all that needs to be removed.

yeah - the 56 57 have the "power" bulges up the sides
- shorter air cleaners?
- how much clearance with the air cleaners off?
- cut the motor mount bushings
-

What's the difference between my 54 and a 56/57? Motor wise....

Yes, exactly... Is it just the 2X4's. They worked on the 56/57.

The inner surface of the 55 hood is different. I couldn't find a picture.

IIRC, there is no X brace on the 55 hood.

because the hood is different - there is no X brace - there is a brace across the hood - right in front of the first carb.
Same for 55's with a v8 - no x brace - this is the reason you see so many 53 and 54's with holes cut in the hood for carbs - mine included.....

Then why cut a hole? Just remove the X. Right.

Also, and IIRC, there is a different type of reinforcement. Wish I could find a picture.

It looks like you could drop an engine in through the hole in the hood.
