Here's mine, and yes it is connected to positive. That way I can hook up my fuzed quartz clock and radio to the switch instead of the battery terminal. When I turn off the switch the clock still runs and my radio doesn't lose its preset stations.

How you you knife switch users avoid corrosion? I used one for a while but it developed high resistance from corrosion on the contacts? Is there some technique to prevent this, or do you just periodically remove the crud with steel wool, sandpaper, or an emery board?

I use a fuse holder pigtail with a 10amp fuse across the switch. any attempt to start without the switch being closed blows the fuse (and I've forgotten and done it MANY times...). I guess tho, when it blows it might wipe out your presets....

Bill - I do the same thing. I think I may have gotten the idea from you. I use a 3 amp fuse which is enough to operate my 3 LED courtesy lights and clock.

I've also forgotten to connect power more than once before trying to start the the car and had to replace the fuse. My Hella red key is inside my glove box and I have the fuse holder tucked under the glove box so the fuse is easy to change.

I've had two knife switches on both cars for 8 years combined in Florida's heat and humidity -- no corrosion problems. I guess you could smear Vaseline on the piece but I haven't found it necessary. The knife switch has one tension setting to make contact based on the springy pieces.

The round **** you have to tighten to get contact and my experience is that tightness increases over time as you keep torquing on it and then eventually you can't get it tight enough to make contact.

To test the round **** switch; throw it into any convenient large body of water as far as you can. If it floats its good, if it sinks its bad

Does anybody use a Continuous Duty switched relay to disconnect the battery?

Yes that is what I referred to as a continuous duty, I think mine is rated for 110 amps, "looks" like a Ford starter relay with one small lug for the switch

If you want to step it up you can buy a remote disconnect. Then you have a key fob with two buttons, one to connect and the other to disconnect. Kinda nice. you don't even have to open the hood.

Well...It's a "LATCHING RELAY" Draws no power in the on or off position.
Similar to a Starter Solenoid as you stated.

Only power is drawn when you push the button and release. Then It's off.

Lose your Key Fob on the wireless ones and your SOL. The switch on this one can be hidden in the car. You won't lose that
