again just getting opinions on a water pump brand , short steel replacement brands. I hate to admit it but if memory serve's me correct the last one was bought at pep boys , it has lasted well over eight years , on the current engine removal there is no way the working when removed one will be put back ! edlebrock aluminum one failed prior to my ownership use
I bought mine from NAPA for my '61. The flanges were way beefier with more material where the pump meets the block on the NAPA pump than on the GM pump I removed. Very important when the pump is part of the motor mount!! No leaks with this one.
I now remember the last one I bought was a bosch ! from its bearing weep hole its flowing out oil or grease it made 7 years , looks like I will be using the Gates standard pump this time around , had another new one here in my stash but it a really sad looking Chinese pump ,
If I don't like the look of the Gates Ill try Napa . Thanks everyone for input !I also will use Indian head on sealing gaskets & new bolt kit !

Times have changed I see CHINA made in China this morning the gates pump arrived , and there it was a long style made in china pump boxed wrong ! then went and bought a Napa: pump , same part # on box ,
while installing the vertical 90 degree I hear a ping , lucky my hearing still exists , the housing cracked , so looks like todays rainy day installation on the 61 motor will be put off again !
Indian Head shellac is the last thing I would use on the gaskets....It sets up hard. You want to use NON HARDENING Permatex number 2. Ask any of the old C1 guys. Use it on the bolt threads too. Also, didn't catch it the first time, but I would never run an aluminum pump on these cars....it's the engine mount too, remember. Plus, aluminum and iron have different expansion rates, testing an already failure-prone design even further.

I will not use the Indian head , when I bought the car it had a alum pump it failed , later on ill have a second cast napa pump and with caution install the hose fittings , I have the # 2 permatex as well standing by ! thanks
