Default Real progress!

I've been steadily knocking out tasks on the 64 rebirth project. It's over 100 degrees here so work conditions are less than optimal (read: brutal).

If you recall, I had a rear drum frozen - turned out to be a bad wheel cylinder plus corrosion around the lug studs. Liberal application of PB Blaster and a large screwdriver and hammer did the trick.

Replaced both rear wheel cylinders and hard lines (turned out I already had stainless hoses but the hard lines were pretty stripped so I fabbed new ones).

Windshield is in and trim installed. Wiring for radar detector integrated into trim - restored visors installed.

New tires - Mickey Thompson S/T 215/70/R15's installed. Gave my original Torque Thrusts (70's) a good polishing and cleaning.

Seat belts installed. Interior installed.

Finally got all the parts for the doors (waiting on new cranks) and thanks to help from Mike Coletta got my vent windows straightened out (I had the operation of the window backwards in my head!)

Need to finish door assembly then install soft top.

Pull transmission to replace TO bearing, install insulation and shift boot retainer.

Then, install side exhaust and it's ready to roll out.

It's been two years. New paint and so many refinements and detail work it's too much to list.

All this for a lowly 64.

Regardless in the amount of progress on your car...it is progress that does not have to be re-worked is what is important ..and that is SUCCESS!

I hope you know how to install your soft top so it fits correctly the first time. There is a trick that makes it fit correctly in one critical area that I can tell you about every top shop in my city does not know about.

Ha! I agree. I hate doing things twice. I should have the interior buttoned up by next weekend. Then I need to order exhaust. The fun part will be driving it to the exhaust shop with bare headers.

I'm also going to start it later this week. It hasn't been started in a year or so- I'm going to turn the motor with the coil disconnected to get oil circulating. I've sprayed WD-40 into the cylinders a few months ago when I replaced the plugs to keep the rust down.

Also new plug wires - hope I got them in the right order!

I'll let you know when I get there on the top. I'm not replacing the top yet - it's the original top and it's in damn good shape (just the usual two holes in the sides) but it certainly has never fit very well.

Eventually I will recover it. I hardly ever even use it. I marked the mounting points - one thing I found was that the backing plate on one side was almost completely rusted out - I had new ones fabbed. (apparently you can't buy them...)
