I think that chart will simply confuse the OP more as it does not list the year for the sales codes listed and further more it is not complete by virtue of this as it lists the subject L76 code as a 340 h.p. 327 and as stated earlier in this thread that code was used in later years for a different h.p. 327.

Remember The OP is talking about both his first Corvette (a 65) and also the people that are transplanting L whatever later model engines in older cars so the "L" designation is further confusing for him as it then has a completely different meaning.

And the 300hp engine that was an option (L75) in '62-'65 was quite different from the 300hp engine that became the standard (base) engine in 1966-67-68. Although they were all 327's, the '62-'65 300hp engine had a Carter AFB 4-barrel carburetor and a Carter-specific iron intake manifold, and the '66-'67 300hp engine had a Holley 4-barrel carburetor on a Holley-specific iron intake. In '68, the base 300hp engine went in yet another direction, with a Rochester Quadra-Jet 4-barrel carburetor on a Rochester-specific intake manifold.

So what are these new engines I see a lot of guys putting in their cars. Is there a year associated with them or are they just remanufactured engines?

I think you are talking about LS engines. Starting in approx 2003? LS2 came out in 2005 and I think LS3 came out in 2006.
It goes LS1, LS2, LS3 and then I think LS7. LS2 is 400HP and LS3 is maybe… 450HP. There were a lot of improvements between LS2 & LS3.

I could be a little off on some of the above.

Don't forget the LS6 which 1st appeared in the 2001 Z06 at 385HP
It remained in the Z06 from 2002 thru 2004 at 405HP and pre dated the LS2 which debuted in the 2005 C6
