Default Electrical Problem

1961 Corvette

I have had this problem for 30 years but never spent too much time investigating it. Now I have decided to try to fix all of the small problems with this car. When I step on the brake pedal, the fuel gauge needle jumps by a 1/4 full and then returns to base with release of pedal. No other electrical problems, all lights, horn, charging etc. working.

Where should I start my search... in the brake light circuitry, fuel tank sender, look for grounding problems ?

Thanks
Tom

No, you do have a problem - read about it -- and the fix is...right here..

It'll take you about 1/2 hour to resolve.

VERY common problem on C1s and my 61 had the issue before I fixed it

Has nothing to do with acceleration or deceleration, but it's probably the most common electrical problem for the C1 cars. Run a separate ground wire and you'll be free to turn your attention to other issues.

Thank you gentleman. The "dancing needle" is exactly what I have. I need to replace the fuel tank vent hose so I will run the dedicated ground at that time. Thanks for saving me countless wasted hours trying to run down this issue!!

Sorry about that. I totally overlooked the 1961 part. I'll delete the other post in case someone else reads looking for this problem
The bad thing is that's one of the first things I did to my 1960 after reading JohnZ's. article about it. I'm going to blame oncoming senility.
