My battery gage stopped registering any charge or discharge. I pulled the connector from the back of the gage and used a volt meter on the connector and it shows charge/discharge as electoral components are turned on and off so I suspect the gage has died. Do I need to pull the cluster to replace the gage and who do you recommend to have the gage rebuilt?
It is recommended you pull the cluster. The painful details for doing so are in the C-1/C-2 FAQ Sticky section above. Corvettes Specialities of Maryland, located on the west coast does an amazing job. Having said that, there are others, but I don't have their names. Someone will respond with them I'm sure. Dennis

I don't want to disagree with Dennis as most here would pull the cluster, but I found with my small hands (snickering) I could gain an inch or so by simply unbolting the cluster and do the job. I even replaced my temp gauge this way.

I'm pretty dexterous with long fingers but I'm not sure I could pull that off that trick. Then I've never really tried it. I HATE pulling the 63 cluster as there are too many one year only things you can screw up - done it twice though..
Okay, I'll post. My amp gauge wouldn't move when I got my '63 in 2001. I haven't pullled the cluster and the gauge still doesn't move.
No problem!
Sorry, Yes its a 63 convt. I thought everyone had a 63. I know its not a big deal for the gage not to work but I have had problems with my brake lights in the past and I use the gage to check on them as the needle will jump just a bit when applied. Lights have not been a problem lately, I'm just a little paranoid.

You absolutely DO NOT need to pull the cluster.
Don't touch the seat or the steering column.
Just lay down in the footwell, remove the headlight switch and unscrew the headlight rollover switch.
There is a "pod" contains the battery gauge and the fuel gauge.
Remove the two hex head screws with a 1/4" ratchet and both gauges will come out.

I have hands like monkey paws, and fingers like bananas...
I've pulled the ammeter gauge (within its' pod) without pulling the cluster.
