Usually pretty close to 36 degrees combined initial timing + all centrifugal timing - no vacuum advance.

Between 2500-3000 RPM you want to be all in

Ideal for street driven cars is somewhere around:

Initial advance - 12-14 degrees

Centrifugal - About 24 degrees, and all in at 2500-3000 RPM as stated by Leif and Dan.

Total of both = 36-38 degrees

Small block Chevies like the TOTAL on the high side (38-40 degrees) whereas the big block cars and Fords like it on the low side (36 degrees).

This assumes you have the correct octane in your gas to prevent detonation. Don't dismiss this important point. Failure to assure this is a recipe for a new engine.

You can back off the initial and/or total number to eliminate detonation.......at the expense of horsepower.
