Default Paperwork

While on my trip to Ca. last week, I visited my kids and grandkids. Also I visited my friend who I bought my 63 SWC survivor from. While there he said I have some books and paperwork for the 63. He had a folder full of paperwork back to the Original Owner. How does this effect the value of the car...

Titles with owners names on them and transfer of ownership from the states. Repair orders, with mileage and dates on them.

I would say that info is nice to have but don't think it would add much to the value. If he gave you the original window sticker and purchase documents, those would add to the value. You could make a binder with the documents you have and add any pictures you might have to show the history of the car.

I agree for the most part. Having documentation always can helps sell a car. I always feel better knowing history when buying a car. If it can be used to substantiate mileage it will also help.

As a buyer, I would be very interested in a complete ownership history of a car I was considering for purchase. Does it make it worth more? Not sure about that, but it might make me feel better knowing it's history. The work performed with mileage is great to have for documenting mileage.

Now that you have it, you can attempt to contact previous owners. They may have some of the paperwork that really enhances value. It's always fun talking to previous owners that are willing to discuss the car. Some even provide pictures from the past.

Agree it’s fun to talk to previous owners. In fact, I just got a letter in the mail from the 2nd and longest owner of my car yesterday with pictures he recently found. It’s really cool that he cared that much to send them to me. We communicate a few times a year.

I think it means alot to have that paperwork. I do not know the value in $ wise but it will help a ton when u sell. People like a story and people like to know what was happening with the car before they saw it. Save it!

Wow you're lucky to get all of that. The only documentation I got with my car was a candy wrapper under the passenger seat.

My guess is the value is in the eyes of a prospective buyer. To me that type of documentation on a '63 would be worth $1,000 to $2,000---on a '93 not even $500---one man's opinion.

I AGREE. Paperwork for a vehicle with many owners, not original equipment and to be used as a driver has questionable to some value. A vehicle with a one or two verifiable owners, correct equipment, restored Or restorable- paperwork does add a lot of true value. Original car with a paperwork / documented trail.

If it was original factory paperwork that proved that car was from the factory a Z06 $17K is too low. If the paperwork is just prior owner service records not a whole lot. But if the choice between to identical cars the one that has this paperwork becomes the decider.

I have paperwork on my 63 coupe back to 1975 from various owners....covers everything that has been done to the car. Interesting reading and nice to have but adds little to the value... One notebook has page after page of tedious tracking of gas mileage, in pencil...
