I have a 327 motor (62-65) and a 350 turbo trans. I have a 168 tooth flywheel. I need a starter to put in as I bought this from someone and it did not have a starter. what will fit? I have tried at least 7 starters from my local Carquest and they have all not fit. The gap between flywheel an starter have all been more then 1/8" . desperate in looking for help? are there any suggestions?

a 168 tooth flex plate requires a starter where the bolts are at an angle/staggered
a 153 tooth flex plate requires a starter where the bolts are straight across
based on the above are you using the correct flex plate for the kind of starter the block will take?

I don't know of a 62-65 327 block has all 3 holes drilled on the starter pad. I think the 870 block only has the pair of straight holes. You might have an incompatible combination. What came out of the car ??? Did you just put the trans & flywheel in recently ???
