I am trying to convert my 64 c2 coupe with a 427 BBC & manual steering, to power steering.
I have purchased factory brackets for the pump and alternator, new pump and box from Borgeson and pulley. Nothing is lining up for belt placement. the Alt is close to line up with crank,, but could have no way to return to the crank with the PS pump pulley in the way. Do I have the incorrect crank and WP pulleys ?
Part # on my WP pulley is 3770245
You probably have the correct crank and water pump pulleys if they're both two groove pulleys. The correct PS pump pulley is a double groove cast iron one, where the belt groove closest to the pump should line up with the forward groove on the water pump and crank pulleys. The back groove on the water pump and frank pulleys is for a belt that only passes through the water pump and crank. There is no idler and you'll have to remove the crank pulley to get the belt on. The PS pump drive belt passes through the forward groove on the water pump and crank pulleys. What you seem to be missing is the right alternator pulley. It is as thick as a two belt pulley and has the belt groove set to line up with the outer groove on the PS pump pulley. The alternator belt only runs between the alternator and PS pump. It does not go through the water pump or crank pulleys. Any of the bigger reproduction parts vendors should have a good illustration in their catalogs. The AIM for a 66 or 67 will also have a good illustration in the RPO N40 section.
If you don't have 2 groove water pump and crank pulleys, you will need those too.
As big of a PITA as it is to install, you will need that small belt between the water pump and crank. If you leave that belt off you will have belt slip problems with the PS drive belt.
My 64 has a 427 and power steering and a borgenson steering unit. Pm me your email and I can send pictures and help if required. I'm using stock pulleys etc.
