Default Headlight shut off after a few minutes

64 corvette with Detroit Speed headlight motors, Dakota Digital gauges, LS3. Headlights turn off when high beams are on for a few minutes. I tried different headlights
I tried changing headlight switch.
No luck. Any idea's?

I believe all power for dash lights, parking lights, tail lights and headlights go through the headlight switch. There is a circuit breaker built into the switch to cycle the power off and on when it is overloaded. If the mods on your car (e.g., Dakota gauges and perhaps non-stock headlight bulbs) are drawing more current than stock, that may be the root cause of the problem. If that is the problem there are several ways to address it including the use of relays to reduce the load on the headlight switch.

Good point on the all the power going through the headlight switch. I have a 39 Ford that I made into a streetrod and upgraded similarly with halogen lights etc. Same issue - lights went off after a few minutes. Switched to relays for the lights and problem solved!

Sounds like relays could be the fix. I’ll give it a try. Thanks guys

Could be a corroded connection in or near your dimmer switch. You can try bypassing it first, but a new one is cheap at local auto parts store. When the lights go off, cycle the dimmer and see if they come back on.
