64 find
My buddy found a 64 coupe that has been sitting with the engine and tranny out of the car for about 15-20 years. Car was owned by a 75 year old gentleman for the passed 30+ years. My buddies plan is to flip it. So what do you guys think sell apart or put it back together. The guy that owned it said he took it apart to reseal it. nothing is wrong just had an oil leak. How much more would it be worth together?

Easy enough to put the engine/trans back in if it is a numbers matching car. I would do that then flip it. If not much to start off with (lots of missing parts, bad birdcage and so forth then parting it out makes sense. Or just leave it as it is and flip it.

I would say when you do go get the pictures, to get detailed pictures of the trim tag & Vin tag, located under the glove box. Also get picture's of the engine's casting# & cast date, and the stamp pad on the engine, check the trans numbers, see if you can read the rear end carrier numbers, & then we would be able to tell what the car originally was, what engine it has, and be able to narrow down what sort of price it may sell for when you clean it all up. While at it, also get photos of all of the components on the engine, intake #, carburetor#, head stamping # & dates. It's very easy for a seller to say this was a 75 year old man's Corvette that treated it like a real cream puff and it absolutely is an original engine, great sales pitch, we hear this short of story about 3 or 4 times a month, but it is also very easy for him to have bought it 20 years prior, from a guy that popped in a 350 from a van to flip it to make some cash and the 75 year old man did not know that, so until you look at the numbers and confirm them, you also would not know. I say this because if none of the #'s lineup to what they are supposed to be in a 1964 Corvette, then there is some value lost. And if it did have a van motor and still ran good there's still also good value there, it looks like a nice car to me though.

Had some beers with my buddy last night and convinced him to put the car back together and drive it before he makes his mind up what to do. I looked at the trim tag the car is supposed to be saddle tan. I posted that it was owned by a 75 year old man because it was. That wasn't a sales pitch. He's had the car for over 30 years so when he was in his 40's he mite have beat on it. I would After it is running if he still want to sell I will post it. I will let you know first Joe

Regardless of if he sells or keeps it, it is good to know what you have for all of the items I listed above. If anything, he will be able to sell, should he choose, with a very honest description. That is the sort of thing people appreciate when buying a 50+ year old car.

I agree with Rob. From the photos there was some custom work done, not usually associated with a 75 year old. 67 big block hood, diamond console pad, non original seat covers (with extra padding I believe), also missing console and radio side covers are not cheap. Make sure you get everything. Check everything you can to make sure you know what you are buying.
