I'm currently running rear P275/60R15 and front P245/60R15. My '65 has a slight flare and offset American Racing wheels to accommodate that tire size, but I'm considering going one size down on both front/rear when I replace the tires this spring. I don't have any rubbing issues, it's really just a matter of what I think looks nicer.
I was hoping someone running rear P255/60R15 and front P235/60R15 could post a few pictures so I an get an idea of what that might look like.
Here's a few of what mine looks like with the stated tire size.
Looks like an 8" rear wheel, front's look like 7" . Why don't you put a front on the rear and stand back ? Might like it better. I like it the way it is, though.

Is that a big block with Hooker headers/pipes?
I have the 205 with Torque Thrust D. Something bigger would be nice on mine.
You could drop a couple sizes and it would still look great.
I like it and I wouldn't change anything about that car. Looks GREAT !!!!
Wow, I was on the fence, but with all the great comments, I think I'll be replacing with the same size.
As for the rims, the rears are 8 1/2" wide with a 1 1/2" neg off-set. I'm not sure about the fronts, but I'll check and report back as I'm taking them off soon for a front shock replacement anyway.
The only rubbing issue I had when I first got the car about a year ago was an occasional rub on the rear fender when I hit a bump. I know that can be dangerous and it was because of very worn shocks and a bent leaf spring. Both have been replaced and I've not had any issues since.
Someone asked about the engine...327, L76 dressed with a stinger hood.
I was having some hard start, over-heating issues last summer and went to install a holley carb heat shield. The small riser they give you turned out to be a little warped and I managed to break off one of the carburetor mounting tabs. So, I ended up replacing the holley with a Quick Fuel that has been a blessing. The car runs much better and now idles at 800 rpm where I could only manage around 1000 with the holley.
Here's a few different ones. My car has lip flares on the rear only...stock on front. I thionk the 275's on the rear are perfect. I ran 255's and the fender looked empty. A buddy of mine has identical flares and 255's and it looks same way.
First are some with "big wheels". I had to go to these when I decided to enter the TX Mile and needed some 200 MPH tires. I had the grey ones first...but felt like I could use a little larger after I saw them. Sold them and got the shiny ones. Both sets of wheels are rear's at 18x9.5 with 5.25" back spacing. The fronts are 17x7-17's with 4" backspacing.
Old tires were 275/45-18's on the rear and 225/45/17's on the front. The new ones are 295/45-18's on rear and 235/45-17's on the front. The front will come down a little...I hadn't driven it after jacking it up to install them.
Next is an old pic of it with some 7" Torque Thrusts using 255/60's on the rear and 215/65's on the front. 7" wheels on front and rear.
Then some TTII's with the 275/60's and 215/65's. 8.5"/7" wheels.
Then there are Cragar's with 275/60's and 205/70's on the front.
Then drag mode.
