Default C2/3 tow package?

So i decided to replace the leaking pinion seal on the rear end and looked under the car noticed that this was there,,,, and i had not seen it in any other pictures/vidoes that i have seen.

Is this a tow package from the cars life before i became the owner?

The part seems to be welded on the forward portion so i guess its staying.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It’s a traction bar, prevents rotation of the rear end.

I've never seen something like that, but it does appear to be some kind of traction bar as it does not have any provision for attaching a drawbar.

I agree. Some sort of traction bar.

Some owner spent too much time with a JC Whitney catalog back in the day...

Your ground clearance may become an issue. You might consider removing it and put the correct rear spring anchor retainer plate and bolts on the bottom of the spring. It's available from Long Island Corvette supply for $30.00. Have someone torch the front part off. Dennis

I agree with the Traction bar. I have one on my 64. The guy before me bought the car out of a junkyard with no engine. Dropped in a built 396 and beefed up the rear end. I bottom out now and then, but it's great peace of mind that I won't destroy the rear end.

I have more, and better, pictures, but can't find them at the moment.

I think i like that it is there and will keep it.

Thanks for the help!

I agree with the add on piece. Something from the early 70's since I bought the car in 74.
