Looking for some advise on fire extinguishers. Both C1 and C2, What brand? What size? Where and how did you mount them? Pictures please. Thanks
If you search the archives you will find numerous posts on this subject! This subject is as popular as to what brand of oil to use, are Pertronix ignitions systems voodoo science etc. etc.
OK I apologize fritzh52, I shouldn't be a smart aleck, my reply was only partially useful to you. Honestly if you do a search, you truly will find this subject covered at length on this forum. Do your research, read the threads and then pick what sounds best to you. There doesn't appear to be any clear consensus except we all agree carrying an extinguisher is a very wise thing to do. Personally I carry a 2 1/2 lb Halon.
Probably one of the more important issues with mounting a fire extinguisher in any vehicle is making sure it is not only readily accessible, but securely mounted. These items can become deadly missiles in an accident, and even if they don't strike you or your passenger, an unintended discharge in the passenger compartment will be extremely disorienting at the very least. Wherever you decide to mount an extinguisher - and yes, opinions vary - make sure it is in a proper bracket for that particular extinguisher, and that said bracket is very securely mounted. Don't just Velcro it to the floor. They are great tools in the right hands - and by that I mean someone properly instructed in how to use a fire extinguisher correctly. Don't assume it's so simple that any fool can do it. If in doubt, ask your local fire department - they will be more than happy to assist you. Safe travels, and I hope you never need to use a fire extinguisher in anger. Trust me, it isn't fun. The Boy Scouts had this one right: Be Prepared.

I would go for the largest one you can fit in your vehicle and use CO2 type. The dry powder type can do a lot of damage to wiring, etc. after you have extinguished the fire.
Seems as though he had a change of heart and deleted his posts. I'll give him credit for the most idiotic post of the year award. If they catch fire they go pretty fast.

I would have lost my 61 to a carb fire in the garage without a nearby extinguisher -- and maybe my house....
