Default Antenna cable replacement

Hello members - AM located in the Phoenix Az area. I have a 66 Roadster. Trying to straighten out the power antenna. Have a new motor ready to install, but also need to replace the antenna cable. Anyone replaced this cable? Is it held inplace under the carpet by clips? Will splicing the new cable to the old and pulling it through work??

Thank you in advance for your help with this!

It obviously runs from the radio over to the driver side, under a metal plate that can be pryed up, then under the insulation along the rear wheel well hump. Then it goes through a grommet along with other wires then to the antenna. You will need to be careful getting the cable through the grommet. Dennis

it might be easier if you gently pull back the carpet on the wheel well to get to the cable. It might be glued down

Thanks Dennis - yea, the grommet could be a tough spot I would think - pretty dried out and stiff. I did see some clips up under the dash - but did not come across the metal plate you describe? Can you tell me where that is? I have previously replaced the sill plates but did not find the cable under them...

Pull the carpet on the side beside the driver seat. The plate might be covered with the jute padding or some other insulation. Just follow the cable. Dennis

Thanks Nowhere Man- is possible I will encounter the glue you speak of - the carpet in the car is fairly new. I am the 3rd owner of this car.
It was purchased new in Alaska

Default Grommet

You may want to check the grommet where the wires pass through the body in the back. Mine was as hard as a hockey puck. Having it on hand may save you some time. Jerry

Though this is for our '65 AC coupe, there might be some useful info in the attached PDF regarding the carpet support and clips if your car has it on the driver side. Slitting the grommet will allow for a fairly easy install of the rear harness and antenna cable. A little Sil-Glyde (NAPA) on the grommet can ease the install into the rear bulkhead as well.

Why do you need to replace it in the first place?
