Default Barrett Jackson auction

I’ve been watching this for a couple of days. Saw some really funny prices. 57 fuelie, $69K. 63 or 64 340 horse 140K. There was a 60 fuelie that brought $160K if I remember correctly. There were several C2’s that sold for good money. I’m probably the most surprised y the 57. May have been a NOM or not even an original fuelie.

I searched the entire docket and found one 1957 Corvette with a reported sales price of $75,900 that would be $69,000 plus 10% buyer's premium. It doesn't sound like an original fuel injected car based on the description:

Lot #421.1 - This 1957 Corvette is finished with its correct color-coded lacquer paint. It is powered by a 283ci 8-cylinder engine paired to a 4-speed manual transmission that is dated for a 1961 Corvette. It has a new top and has been part of a private collection since its completion. Also has new carpet, new date-coded windshield, Wonder Bar radio and the clock works.
It's interesting that nothing in the description or listing even mentions that it's a fuelie. There is just one blurry under hood picture showing it has a fuel injection unit on it. There is no fuel filter specific to fuelies and does not appear to be a totally correct unit.

This 2x4 '57's from the John Staluppi collection did very well at $134,200 all in.

The 62 went crazy high (my vid from audience below — it was a blast), and a 56 Venetian that was about a 6/10 went quite a bit higher than I expected. Then yeah, others were surprisingly low.
How much did the white 63 coupe go for today?

Wow! We've been to Scottsdale for years now and that one always seems to set the outrageous prices on the high side....but this year Palm Beach is really seeing some super high selling prices...a ton of wealthy folks there....God Bless America.

Time & time again I’d turn around during the auction to be entertained watching a couple of uber wealthy dudes go back and forth in bidding wars, bumping the price 25% over where it should’ve stopped.

best collection of cars i can ever remember and looking forward to sunday episode #7 on Velocity. imo the cars were bringing higher prices because they were showroom restorations. surprised the 1957 bronze colored tbird did not do better compared to the blue 1955(no comparison between the '55 and the '57).

really happy to see the DeSoto Adventurer finally get recognized-wow.

one question: weren't the original GM fuelie cars plagued with issues and abandoned for awhile?

Biasing prices far away from us mere mortals....BJ should have a separate segment called, "Egos on Display".

Part of why I'm not an "auction junkie" like many here apparently...

Tbird, the Dolza/Duntov Rochester FIs worked (and continue to work) very well. Like every other fuel induction system of the time, they occasionally need adjustment or overhaul, which has always been intimidating to some owners because they are so different from carburetors. Often any issue that an engine was experiencing was blamed on the FI. They were in steady production from 1957 through 1965, but were discontinued largely because of the advent of the big block Mark IV engine, which created more torque and horsepower at a lower price.

Went Thursday and saw all the cars. Beautiful collection from Staluppi. 140 cars filling a building. It was great to look at.

The blue/white guts 65 Mustang convertible caught my eye while I was there. 289, Factory AC car, Rally Pack, nicely done custom console. Didn’t care for the LED headlights as they looked cheap and cheesey to me. I was vey surprised to see it sell for $55,000. I thought it was a really nice car that might bring $25,000.

The Good Humor truck selling at $107,000 also caught me waaaay off guard.

Auctions like Barrett Jackson are fun to watch but they are not reality for the everyday working man.

Dad used to say there are people with more money than brains. Interesting how parents get smarter as we age.

You apparently haven't been pricing decent 1st gen Mustangs lately - I have...especially convertibles...

I think Barrett Jackson Auctions draws out the big whales $$$$ with very deep pockets. You are more likely to see the oil baron cars from the 1920's like the Packards, Bugatti, Duesenbergs,Pierce-Arrow, ConCords etc at the Barret Jackson Auctions then at Mecum Auctions. Mecum Auctions are more for the common folks. It also seems like location of the auction(city, state) makes a difference on the auction sell price of the car or truck, just as location makes a difference on house value.

I watched some of the auctions and was surprised by several price points:

A model T circus wagon and the Good Humor truck both for >$100K

A 340 SWC in white for more than a fuelie.

A lot of 50's Mopars going for super dollars (the Stalupi (sp?) collection).

I came away convinced that the buyers there did have deep pockets and were not technical buyers, but "statement" buyers.

I also think some of the buyers may have profited well from the longest bull market in history.

Matters not Frankie. Regular working class guys have limits. Collectors don’t and are willing to say “Look, mine’s bigger than yours”. Good for them. If that Mustang had been an automatic so my wife would enjoy it I was in for 20-25. Once the price goes stupid I’m gone. I paid less for my 2006 Corvette convertible and it is much more practical than a 65 Mustang. While I enjoy looking back I keep moving forward.

Bring your 63 out. I’ll see you as I look back in my rearview mirrors.
