Default Oil pressure gauge line fitting a freak

I looked in the vendors books for a new copper oil line and fittings for my 57 and couldn't find any listed so I just picked one up at the local auto parts thinking all older GM cars used the same one . ( wrong ! ) the fitting that goes into the back of the oil pressure gauge is smaller diameter . The other end that goes into the back of the engine is still the old standard fitting . I went back to the auto parts and nobody has the right size fitting for the gauge end . Anybody know where I can find one ?

This may or may not be helpful, but I have a line from Zip Corvette (PN Z-840) which says it fits 56-62. I have yet to install it and both ends and fittings appear to be identical.

Looks like Paragon has them in their catalog for $13.00.

GM uses unique fittings and the line isn't copper. DO NOT use copper; it can fail on you.
Original lines were plated steel.

Paragon has the correct line and fittings. Hardware store stuff won't work.

This is the fitting you need. I doubt you will find these in a hardware store though.

By the way, the originals were a 5/16" hex while later replacements are, I think 3/8". Good judges can spot this from three feet away.

Edit: See Buns post #11 for the correct/special male connector that's to be used with this type of fitting. It has the matching tapered seat inside. This is only used on the engine side of the line.

Several years ago, I was working around my oil line and broke the tubing at the fitting to the block. I was in a pinch to get my car back on the road and I found this fitting at my local Napa Auto Parts store. It's a little different from the original but it worked until I could get a new line and fittings from Paragon.

Mike, just curious how that Weatherhead compression fitting is different than what comes with the oil line kits from Paragon. It looks exactly the same as what Critter posted. Bill

Yes Michael they are 3/8" now ... I just finished rounding the corners off on mine trying to tighten it to stop a slow leak at the gauge. I need a new compression fitting now and before I put the new on, I've bend a 6-point box end 3/8" wrench with the needed double 90* bends so it will seat on the fitting properly since the gauge is recessed. The fitting I got from Napa was a little shorter than the Paragon fittings I have gotten. The flared tip is a little shorter but it sealed just fine in the base fitting.

No need to pay the Corvette tax, Friendly Local Auto Parts Store should have these Weatherhead (Eaton) fittings:

Thanks Mike . I ordered a couple from Napa to see if they work . They are cheap enough at $1.16 each . The vendors would charge $10.00 in shipping.
