Sure it was, and yes he could. Still makes no sense, especially if savvy car guys watched. To a gearhead it sounds like he was having trans problems.............like all 4 synchros were gone. Sounds cool? I think slick shifting or powershifting would have sounded cooler.

. . . it still wears the NJ Bullitt plate in back! And, it's said to be worth 3-5 MILLION!!!

Someone once told me they originally made three of them for the movie. And now there are just 274 left.

I wonder what happened to the Charger. You never hear anything about it.

That's because people care about Steve McQueen, and the cars he drove.
Especially this one.
Bill Hickman, not so much.

I am glad you care but I have better things to care about then a fictional movie that the actors where just following the script written by a bunch of people who just wanted to make a movie that made money. I will never understand the fascination about this movie and mustang

I am old enough to understand just fine. the Gone In 60 Seconds remake was my time frame and it spawned countless mustangs being built and a company illegally making them that ended up really bad. I never got that whole thing either

It was one of the first ***** out chase scenes and the cinematography was great.

We had not seen that before

And as stated before Steve was the essence of KOOL

There is a lot of things you don't understand, but you always have a pretty strong opinion regardless. I'm thinking it's your age.

I'm probably not old enough either at 55 years. I guess this movie was made in the 1968-70 time period so I was not even 10 years old.
I've never been into watching movies unless I'm trapped into it! I admit I liked Godzilla and saw "Destroy all Monsters" in the theatre. I'm not very familiar with Steve Mc or this movie. I'm not sure why he is cool, same with James Dean. It's more about the cars for me.
When I was a kid, I was way more infatuated with the '63 coupe (vs. any movie or movie star) that was junked in the woods behind my house that my neighbor wrecked while racing it. It looked in tact other than everything forward of the firewall was laying next to it in a heap. It was silver with red interior. I have pictures of that car somewhere and plan to post them when I find.
Other things I don't get (why anyone pays attention when it is reported that): a rapper or actor makes a political statement, a royal baby is due, a rich person OD's on pain killers or a good looking woman with a huge *** names her baby a weird name.
This thread is OT but thank you for posting the pictures.
This mustang is very cool and is perfect as is.

Remember that the Mustang was relatively new at the time. Especially a BB. The Charger R/T was also relatively new. The real high horse power cars just started to hit the road.
I think this is a really cool piece of movie history. I went to see it with my girlfriend on our first date. It made me want to rev the **** out of my 64, 283 Chevelle SS. Now I want to watch the movie again.
Thanks for posting.

If it was indeed the first movie with a car chase scene then I get that historical point of view. But saying how cool Steve was by basing off what the writers told him to do and what the director told him to do is non sense.

Keith.

Put the shovel down and stop digging. You don’t have a ladder tall enough to climb out.

Your position is stated and accepted. We all accept that if it isn’t a factory correct Corvette you aren’t interested.

We oldsters have had other cars. Some of them we miss and remember fondly. By the time I was in my 30’s I had already had over 45 vehicles. Cars, trucks, motorcycles. Some of them for a couple years, some for a couple weeks. I would like to have two of them back. My 68 Charger and my 69 Dart 340 Swinger. That isn’t going to happen.

Let us have our memories. It doesn’t cost you anything.

Rich

The one shown in the Mall has been known about for a long time. But the second 68 Mustang Bullitt stunt car was recently found in Mexico.

Cars are cars. I like most and can appreciate the work that goes into them. If you had a fast back stang and saw that movie I could see the love affair with it. I want a 69 orange charger for one reason. So I fall into into this same boat.

You need to brush up on just who and what Steve McQueen was as a person, an actor and a full blown race car driver. If it had an engine and wheels, two or four, he raced it. On Netflix or Amazon is a documentary on McQueen and the making of HIS movie, LeMans, and it's an amazing look at what made him tick.

He did much of the driving in Bullitt. The guy was absolutely BADASS.

Steve was a serious off-road MC racer too.
