The side pipe cover insert (the black sheet metal behind the cover) has come undone and drooping down, drivers side toward the front. Does this snap into place? Do I need to pull the cover down?
The insulator is fiberglass and is glued to the aluminum outer cover. The adhesive eventually fails due to age + all those heat cycles. Actually impressive that it holds up as long as it does.
Many have used JB Weld to rebond them. Loctite quick-set multipurpose epoxy is another good choice.

Sure seemed like metal but sometimes I seem alert.
Glued. What a concept. So the rocker molding comes off; then the cover; then I glue the sucker back inside the cover? Cover best comes off at wheel well bracket & philips head in the rear of the cover?
I realize this is an older thread but I am trying to replace the side pipe insulation which is in the curved section of my side pipe covers. Somehow over the years I lost the insulator on the drivers side and I would like to replace it. Just don't know where to get it. Any suggestions?
Most of the Corvette Vendors sell the curved fiberglass piece you are looking for. Some sell them in a set (two curved and two straight) and some sell the pieces individually. You will need to use an epoxy resin/hardener type of glue to re attach it to the backside of the exhaust cover. Good Luck with it. C.J.

Thanks, been trying to contact a few vendors but no answers. Must be CORVID days.
But I'll keep trying.
