Default Putting my car in show room

I am toying with the idea of putting my 67 in the show room of the dealership where it was sold new. I think the dealer will let me but am worried about the public getting to close to my new paint. What do you think?

I think it would be neat to see it there talked to salesman last night and he thought the owner would go for it am going to take the car down and at least get a picture in front of the place.

Sadly, it’s astonishing how many people out there see our restored cars as pretty appliances to get pictures of their kids sitting on its fender. If you can accept you car coming back not exactly like you left it, I’m sure you’d delight many visitors to the dealer. Can’t imagine that owner turning down your offer. Blessings

I would have to be really desperate for garage space to leave my restored car in a place like that. Unless it will be roped off never touched by anyone.

When Eckler's had the old showroom in Titusville they would have customers' cars displayed in the front; you actually had to walk by them to get to the parts counter. One morning some fella had the passenger side door open on a white 62 and was leaning under the package tray....

I asked the man how it was going (assuming he was the owner) and he replied that he was trying to figure out how the outboard brackets on the package tray go together so he can order the 'right stuff' for his car... He was just a customer.

Ya think those dealership salesmen will care if some customer's sticky fingered kid sits in your car for a photo shoot if it means a sale ?

I'm just sayin'

Drive your car to the dealership for a photo, then drive home.

I had my car on display at a local indoor mall, along w/several other old cars from my car club. All the cars were roped off, so, I thought they'd be secure, and obviously "off limits" to the General Public. Wrong. They would go under the rope to get a better look, which also meant finger prints, spilled drinks, and scratches.

Never again. You can't trust the General Public.

Have you ever seen a three-year-old hanging from a side mirror? Running their little toy car over a fender?

I wouldn't even buy a car that had been in a showroom, never mind leaving a classic there.

If you are worried at all about your car, don't do it. The general public these days has very little respect for other people's property and have no idea what is involved with restoring and refinishing a vintage car.

I find 95% of people show respect... but when you have lots of people passing by, the 5% can take their toll!

The first thing I would be concerned with is insurance. Is your car covered for damage/theft/whatever under his policy or yours? You may easily be putting your car there on your own dime at your own peril. No way I would leave the car without a signed document stating what they are and are not responsible for.

People will try to get in it, paw it, want to take it for test drive, etc.

NFW, unless it is in a locked glass enclosure

Yes, while the majority of people won’t be a problem, a significant % will not have the slightest concept about respecting a vehicle like that and won’t think twice about sitting in or on it, letting their kids roll a Hotwheels on the fender, etc.

My car was used as a dealer’s display car in a couple locations by the owner over several years. Not sure how that went, but it kept it off the road for long periods of time.

To think its not going to get messed with or worse yet "test driven" cause someone needed to move it is unrealistic. Forget the whole idea.

You folks have talked me out of doing it. The owner is one good guy and if he was around no one would touch my car but he can't be there all the time. It would just have been nice since it came from his store. I still have the order sheet his brother (Mike Terry's cousins husband) checked off on when it was new. Will get some photos at the dealership Clarks Chevrolet Cayuga Indiana my be the oldest if not one of the oldest in Indiana. Thanks George

DEFINITELY AGREE. You don’t need or deserve the problems that you WILL have. The whole idea of doing that absolutely scares me to death. This advice is based on working in dealer showrooms for over fifteen years and seeing just about everything.
