Help with decoding engine #s
Casting # is: 3892657
Engine stamping is: 376 V0930MF
What I "think" I know:
From the casting #s .... It appears to be a 1967 327?
Also, does the V0930 in the engine stamping translate to: Flint, September 30Th?
I don't know what the 376 or what the MF in the 376 V0930MF engine stamping means?
Can any of you engine gurus out there help me figure out this what this engine is from?
I can't say what the "376" is, but it could be part of the Camaro's VIN number? Prior to 68, Corvettes were the only Chevrolet to always get a VIN stamp on the block. Only optional, high performance engines in other Chevrolet models got VIN stamps. There doesn't appear that there was any standardization of the VIN stampings on other Chevrolet lines, so it's application seems to vary from plant to plant and model to model. Still, the 327/210 was hardly a high performance engine, and I doubt that a 210 would normally receive a VIN stamp.
Another possibility is that the engine may have been rebuilt at some point, and the 376 could be an identification mark placed there by the rebuilder.
Seeing a picture of the pad, might help.
A little background on this motor:
This motor was originally installed in my father-in-law's 58 vette in the late 60's and rebuilt sometime in the 80's.
He bought the motor from a salvage yard in California in the late 60's and was "told" at the time it was a 327 from a corvette. But... I can see a salvage yard telling him its a "corvette" motor to make the sale

Thanks again for the info!

The engine is a 1967 Camaro engine as indicated above. Not all 1967 Chevrolet engines had a VIN derivative stamped on them.
Starting in 1968, as part of the Vehicle Anti Theft laws, all major components had the VIN derivative stamped on them.
