Default Route 66 Set Scene Photos

Taken by my dad in 1963. Last episodes of Route 66. Can you guess where these were taken?

. Well, since it was Route 66, and at the end of the series, it would make sense that is at the end of Route 66- Santa Monica pier.

Interesting that there is no outside mirror. And I don't see an antenna in the 1st picture?

You'd think so, but that causeway in the background of the first pic doesn't look like anything around here, and I live a few blocks away from the pier. It does look kinda like the Arthur Godfrey Causeway in Miami...

If you look at many old movies and even some newer ones the rear view mirror is missing on “thru the windshield” shots. Maybe something similar in this case.

Great photos.

In the 2nd photo the antenna is there but the man standing next to the driver is covering the mirror.

Looks like the 1st print was made from a reversed color negative. I enlarged it and could read the Crane writing backwards. Also showed the dashpad grab bar on the wrong side and driver was in passenger seat.... a optical illusion looking like it was actually RHD.

After a horizontal flip you can see the mirror and the antenna, and the dashpad grab bar is now on the passenger side.

Yes, you are correct. I see that now.

This location was at Tierra Verde (St. Pete) at Guy Lombardo's Port-O-Call. The Suncoast Corvette Club in 1988 sponsored the 25th Anniversary Reunion Party & Corvette show which both Marty Milner and George Maharis attended. That event was held at Rocky Point in Tampa, FL

The vast majority of those episodes were no where near Rt 66. In fact the show was really not specifically about Rt 66 but rather about a couple of young guys on the road trying to find their place/purpose in life.

Mine? It was originally posted by the son of the photographer in post#1. I did the reverse image, so I think it's best if you ask him for permission and I'd suggest to get his Dads full name for your book credits.

You can send him a email or PM by clicking on his username in post#1.

GLWTB...

Rich
PS If its ok with him you can use my reverse image. I'm ok with that.

Thanks for responding I have sent him the same message, but it looks like he's been inactive for several years. If I don't hear from him and end up using the image I'll credit both of you.
