Stayfast white convertible top solution found
UPDATE: Please read the post #22 update... Things went terribly wrong!
Hello gents,
As has been discusssed here, for some reason, all the 'big" vendors stayfast tops are only available in black and a few other darker colors; white was not an option.
But I recently noticed on convertibletop.com (the online store for Robbins tops), they offered a stayfast top in "GM White" in C1 sizes.
Well I called and confirmed it is made from Haartz material.. and the color is "close" to the original tops.
I ordered one, and it arrived 4 business days later. Here is a photo of it on top of my AK vinyl top.
It's a shade lighter... but I can live with it! It might even look better on my Ermine White.
Now to get it installed before the SACC event July 20!
Fred

I like cloth tops, but I bet when bird poop or grease or oil sink in the fabric, it won't ever come out. That may be why the white comes in vinyl.

Well.. with a weekend driver/show car, I've never had a bird poop on the car.
You can see the brown/yellow stain on my AK Vinyl top.. That happened within the first month. No idea what it is. I have tried EVERYTHING to remove that stain... it fades, but persists.
What you can't see is the TEAR on the other side....
I am looking forward to Stayfast!

Fred,
I am going to be doing the soft top on my '60 soon (hopefully!). I did get a sample of the "oyster" Stayfast to see the actual color and how it might look against the yellow on my car. I didn't think it would be too bad looking, but like most others, I wanted to see if I could get a Stayfast top in white.
Well, you have solved that problem! My question is, from the initial look and feel of the white Stayfast, do you think it is going to be hard to A) keep clean, and B) when it does get dirty, do you think the cloth is going to be harder to clean?
I really want to go with Stayfast over vinyl because of the infamous shrinkage problem. Just need to decide the final color.
Thanks,
Terry

The instructions say that you can wash/soap it, but warn to be careful about stowing it when wet (like any top).
I'll know a lot more in 2 weeks!

I contacted Haartz a while back and asked if they could make a true white cloth material. They said no because it would never stay white through the manufacturing process. Looks like they found a way. Now just to keep it white. Do you plan on putting a clear vinyl cover over it like grandma did on the sofa to keep it white?

Hi Terry - I don't know how much I can tell you at this point. It feels like high quality.. It's nearly as 'heavy' as the vinyl top. It's texture is a little 'rougher' then the vinyl.

When I was searching on the web for "Haartz GM White", this beautiful Cadillac came up at the top of the list... I was sold on it right away!

OK, I was so excited I looked at the convertibletop.com site. They currently are offering the white Stayfast for 1961-62 only at this time. White is NOT available for 1956-60.
Maybe I will delay the project a while in hopes they will make it available for my 60 in the near future.

It's going to look fantastic when installed. I'm sure you're going to get a lot of attention and field a lot of questions.
I like the others wonder how well it's going to shed even dust not alone grime.
Please keep us undated.

I wonder if it could be treated with some sort of Scotch Guard sealer to make staining less of a problem?

This product is specifically for fabric tops... Different from the regular 303 aerospace protectant (for vinyl, plastic, rubber, etc.)
I just got a bottle on order.
