Default 67 Windshield Removal

So I am looking at the windshield with only the lower trim still in place. Then the idea comes and I didn’t find it doing a search. So the question for the board is, can I remove the front windshield with the lower trim still attached? It looks to my untrained eye that I could cut the windshield gasket out on the sides and top. Then gently lift the top of the windshield out just a little and pull the windshield up and out at angle. The part I’m not sure about is will there be enough flex at the trim for the windshield to slide up and out? If it works, I think it would be easier to remove the lower trim after digging out the remaining gasket. It sounds easy in my head but sometimes that makes things worse. Thanks in advance.

If you want to save the windshield I would remove the lower trim.

Thanks Nowhere. Still on the fence about keeping it. It’s pitted, few small ships and has a nice wiper scratch on the passenger side. I read where someone tried to install with the lower trim in but nothing about removal. Think I’m more worried about messing up the trim than I am the windshield.

The trim comes off easy if you have the correct tool. This tool slips behind the trim and hooks the clips to open them up so the trim is released. Easy, peasy.

Part 2 is installing a new windshield or this one with the new weatherstrip and "goop". Additionally, removing the lower strip will allow you to examine the birdcage and clips where replacement of the clips may be needed due to rust and you can also clean up all of the metal that the gasket fits around. I cleaned off my windshield frame and coated with epoxy primer. My $.02.

Thanks guys. I’ll order that tool tomorrow if I can’t find one local. I’m going to let the body guy reinstall I think. I never have taken a windshield out before except on a 76 Camero that was being turned into a dirt track car. Used a hammer on that one. Lol.
