Car quit on way home will fire up and shut down I changed the ballast resistor, coil, points are good getting a good spark and gas to carb. Thinking I loss a ground some where. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Car is 63 S/W 327 /300. Thanks Guys Jim

I'm sure there will be more qualified members that will chime in but if you had a bad ground it would not even crank. Sounds like an issue with the carburetor, fuel filter or even bad gas. Check to make sure all your vacuum hoses are secure. Good luck, Peter

Are you saying the car starts then shuts down ? Does it back fire ? Does it start immediately after it turns off ?
I agree with Frankie it sounds like you’re losing power when the ignition switch is off the start circuit. Like he said use a jumper to try it there aren’t many things in the ignition system in the C2’s Power to the ballast resistor. Easy to check.

it sure sounds like the ballast resistor, but, he said he changed the ballast resistor already. So, maybe the new one is faulty too??
Sounds like an electrical issue, I’d check the ignition switch first
I agree. Contacts in the ignition switch are probably corroded and causing a high resistance and dropping voltage to the coil. Be very careful about jumping a hot wire directly to the coil with a faulty ignition switch . You may back feed all the circuits when the ignition switch is on overloading that small gauge wire going to the distributor.

Never heard of this happening.
The jumper test only need to be done for 3 seconds; if the car runs the problem is at the ignition switch; its connector or the intervening wiring.
Frist and for most Thanks for all the info you Guy's Rock😁 Found the problem the ignition wire on the switch had backed out the tab on contact had decompress so wire just pulled out of switch. Thanks Again for All The Info You Guy's Were Spot On. SAVE THE WAVE . Jim

Remember if your car shuts off without and sputter or backfire it’s almost always an electrical issue as opposed to fuel.
