'57 Carpet Screwed Down?
The AIM shows the carpet screwed down on a '57 corvette. The carpet was long gone on our project car and wondering if they actually followed this and if so were the screws specifically placed or just where they made sense to hold the carpet (like within 3"-6" from where the AIM shows them). Also, was there any specific screws and washers that were used? I'm attempting to show a picture of the area in the AIM that shows the screw placement...
Thanks,
Al

If you look at your floorboards, you might find the holes.
My experience says that they were placed pretty darn close to the AIM drawings..

Here is the only picture I can find that shows the location of the passenger side screw, you can see it just left of the GMC paper floor covering.

I just put new carpet in my 57 and I didn't use screws or glue . Just laid in place and no problems . They do tuck under the door jamb trims which are held on with screws . It will be very quick to get at the center tunnel if it has to come out to service the shifter or transmission .

I hate drilling new holes in my car. So when I installed the screws in my carpet, I wanted to find the old holes. Sometimes they can be hard to find. I found them by turning off the lights in the garage, and shining a droplight under the car. When you find the holes, put nails or pins in them from the underside, so that they will pierce the carpet when you put it down and cover up the holes.
