I have a '59 and looking for my VIN. I don't see it on the driver door post. I heard that VIN is also located on the frame. Can someone please tell me where I can look for this? I have a 350 engine therefore it won't help me to identify the car. I bought the car from Oregon and the title has VIN as 0R20XXX so it doesn't help me when I called Oregon Vehicle Department. Thank you.

The VIN is stamped on the top of the frame approx. where your left hip would be while sitting in the car.

Original VIN numbers for 59s are in the following configuration
J59S10 with 6 sequential numbers starting at 000001. J= Corvette, 59 model year, S = St Louis
OR20xxx could be a state issued VIN.
If your car has the original frame the factory VIN was stamped on the upper driver side rail at approximately where your back pants pocket is located when seated.
You definitely ahve state issued VIN number.
I dunno if OR affixed state VIN tags or not.
The number could be a number based on some number they found on the car.
My '33 Chev Roadster has a VIN number on the title of ORXXXXXXX, where the XXXXXXXX is the serial number stamped into the side of the (original) engine block. They added the OR to the title, but teh OR does not appear on the block or on any affixed VIN plate.
I woudl look to see if that number matches something on your engine block.
What state are you in, CA? If so, you will be getting a CA state assigned VIN tag attached to your car.

I am on my second 61 bought out of state and had to expose the VIN on the frame so the Highway Patrol could verify it for a Missouri title. The first 61' I pulled out the driver seat and cut a 4" x 12" hole in floor right under left pants pocket location and it was there. The 61' I have this time , done the same thing , same location - NOT THERE ! I tried cleaning chassis forward and rear of that location with wire wheel on angle grinder , could not locate . Pulled body off and found it next to left front driver seat mounting bolt . Guess it depends on the individual stamping the chassis.

I can only imagine the degree of difficulty titling a car with an aftermarket chassis like an SRIII......
Its easy, take a bunch of receipts for teh expensive things like the chassis, and bunch of pics of the build down to DMV.
They will assign you a VIN number after checking any motor and trans numbers against stolen vehicle records..

A ‘59 engine would not have a VIN stamped on it anyway, so there’s nothing to match.

On my ‘58, after some bodily gymnastics, I was able to place a small mirror in various places along the inside of the frame rail, flood the area with light and take a bunch of pictures of the mirror image. I actually wound up with a few very nice photos verifying the VIN. It was almost dead center under the drivers seat area. You’re right, it likely depends on what kind of day the worker was having.

Look all over the car, both door jams, front and rear, engine compartment, firewall, under dash structure, steering column, etc. for a tag that has OR20xxx. That is almost certainly a state issued VIN tag, and the state usually attached them in a more permanent fashion.
The first two character are O R for ORegon, followed by 5 digits. The tage is also going to say something like State of Oregon Vehicle Identification Number.
